I bought a new spare 27108643149 from getbmwparts without a core charge. It's in storage, but my original is still good. Who knows if that price will carry on in the next round of parts pricing.

I dont get it. the 725 part is the part they said I needed. Why would they quote 5600 for that part? That isnt fair at all. Am I missing something? Does the car need reprogramming after?

The dealers are allowed to charge what they want... but new recent retail price is that price you see.
They may still want to charge the old price (profits?). Find another dealer, or inform them of the price for the part. Or maybe ask them to install 27108643149 to see if the price is different.

A follow up. After weeks without a car, I bought a used Aux trans. $700 taxes in delivered. It came with the electric motor and the fitting on top. Dealer bill was $1000.00. $1800 versus the $7000.00 plus taxes the dealer quoted. The difference was the $5400.00 part. I still have the old one to rebuild for next time. Really getting screwed with BMW Canada on prices. Very disappointed with BMW. Owe too much to ditch it.

The failure of the transfer case should be obvious from the outside of it. The failures I have seen were that the part that attaches to rear driveshaft has some damage where it connects to the transfer case.
Sorry to hear about your metering valve and line. I would source those used if you needed them cheaper. Did it have codes for the metering valve? The leaky pipe I understand if it got damaged somehow.

Years ago when my F31 M-sport with staggered wheels was only a few years old, the transfer case simply seized abruptly, at maybe 25,000 miles or so. Now that my 2014 car is off the BMW warranty, I feel the signs of the transfer case failing, with the stuttering hesitation upon acceleration. I'm hoping very much to convince my dealer to get BMW/NA to pay for a new one as a BMW should need a third transfer case in 49,000 miles. I'll post back my results and I will enter myself in the database.

Update:
My dealership wanted to charge me their standard $179 “diagnostic fee” just to look at/drive my car to determine if my transfer case was bad. I was unhappy about this because I was quite sure I knew it is casing the hesitation when accelerating. I held off setting an appointment and then called back later only for them to tell me they were now all booked for the day. I explained I was concerned about taking my family for a 500 mile trip to Canada this Friday and the service person said no problem, just drive up without an appointment. That saved me $179 right there. However the shop foreman who does test drives had 3 other cars in front of me so I had to wait around for an hour. That turned out to be a benefit... the foreman finally was sent over to me and I explained I thought my transfer case was failing. He was suspicious about my wife wheels in the back and didn’t seem to believe me at first that I actually ordered my M-Sport wagon with staggered wheels with summer tires. I assured him they were stock BMW tire sizes and he said he had a feeling that if my second transfer case is now failing at 50k miles, there must be a reason and he suspects it is the staggered tires. A short test drive of just a minutes was all he needed to agree that indeed my transfer case was failing. I explained that my budget would not allow for the regular dealer charge for this replacement and he suggested I talk with the manager of service for the whole dealership. He seemed doubtful I would get a break but he said if you make enough noise, you never know. When the manager finally called me in to his office he was already apologizing that I had to wait around an hour so that set the tone right off the bat. I asked if I should contact the service manager for my district at bmw NA and he said it was not necessary- he would give me a good price to keep up customer relations as I am a repeat customer of his dealership and they are proud of their #1 customer satisfaction rating. They sent me home in a nice new 5 series and the car should be ready by the end of the day today. I didn’t mention that earlier I did put that call into bmw NA even before going to the dealer. (Lucky for me I have a friend who knows high up people in BMW) so there is still a possibility I might not be paying anything in the end. Either way the repair will be less than a grand so thts not bad for my very first repair out of warranty. Like many say, these cars are expensive when the warranty runs out! |

For those that have had a failure recently, do you have any details on what exactly failed?

I recently picked up an F31 328d Xdrive Wagon (used from a 3rd party dealer). It came with a staggered setup, BMW Style 403 wheels with 225/40R19 front and 255/35R19 rear. It's now showing signs of transfer case failure (39K miles) When I took it to the dealer they said the warranty is voided because of the tire sizes (not matching what is printed in the door jam, 225/45R18 front & rear) I contacted BMW of NA and they confirmed that the dealer is correct to void the warranty. I'm confused though, there are many xdrive cars that come with this staggered setup...

Yea, now I'm kinda worried. Just bought my 2014 328d XD and put some Apex wheels on with staggered set up.
18x8.5 et35 18x9 et30 Tires: 245/40/18 All within less than 1% ratio. Worried that this would screw up the transfer case.
