This has been a known issue with lots of other models. Bolts ending up lost or in the bottom of oil pans why only fix a few for a wide spread manufacturer defect? Sounds like class action lawsuit here

I was lucky enough to enjoy being one of those "rare cases" about a year ago! Engine had to be rebuilt and has had oil consumption issues ever since....

Until the recall is actually issued, it's really impossible to determine if your particular car is part of it. So far it's just an email by BMW to NHTSA with some models and a total number of cars. Your dealer may or may not have more info. They may or may not be willing to share before the formal announcement. "German carmaker BMW (BMWG.DE) said it would voluntarily recall more than 156,000 vehicles in the United States, including its popular 3 Series compact sedan, to check for potentially defective bolts that could lead to engine damage. BMW said it would check whether bolts holding a certain component in vehicles with six-cylinder engines were prone to loosening or breaking. The vehicles, which also include the Series 5 and the Z4 sports cars, are from model years 2010 to 2012, the company said in an email." The total number of cars produced in those series exceeds 156,000. Just BMW 3 series sales in the US for 2010-2012 were about 300,000. It will be specified by specific model, production date, and maybe VIN number. But even that would be reassuring. If you're not included, presumably BMW thinks your car is OK. They could be wrong, but it's far from nothing. |

I called and I am not flagged for recall, but the advisor said to call back in a week because bmw sends out recall batches in waves.
2010 135. He expects mine to recall in the next few weeks due to my build date. |

My late 2011 build 335i shows as no recalls. But this may not hold up. It was six months after the fuse box connector recall was announced before my vin showed up in system.

My 135i has a May 2010 Production date, 57,000Kms on the odometer, and I havent had the issue yet. N55 does consume oil though. Ive asked my service advisor if this could be hanlded as a preventive maintenance, before this recall was announced, and he obviously refused. Ive mailed BMW Canada to file a complaint. They called back and claimed I was not affected (SIB article says differently). I filed a complaint with Transport Canada about the security concerns I have related to this issue. I havent heard back from them. With today's BMW USA announcement, Ive asked my Service Advisor (Canada) to reconsider. Ive emailed him the article, and left a vmail. I dont care if he/BMW Canada thinks Im a royal PITA ... ;-)

This really sucks because I only have one car. I'll be without a car while the work is done unless I rent a car. The German BMW dealer charges €40 per day for the use of a 1.6l Mini. Yes, even for a recall issue if the car is more than 2 years old.

Wonder if pressure from forum members/owners had anything to do with the recall
I like to dream, and hope those who filed complaints made a difference ...

My thoughts exactly, I did the ones on my M3 so it did not cost me a lot of money, just time. I don't expect them to do anything now, but they should have when the cars were newer. As far as I know there were way more S54's with the problem than there are n55's. End rant.

I was told it takes several weeks, if not months, for the dealerships to actually get the recall and the parts.
