Not at all. The switchover of boards/modules is to be done when the ignition is off.

Update just in case no one has seen them yet—I’ve noticed yellow DRL modules for LCI F34s being sold in recent months. Haven’t tried myself yet, but a GT buddy of mine has installed them and they look pretty cool and apparently they are plug and play. Here’s an example I found on eBay:

The boards in the listing are for pre-LCI HID or for non-adaptive LCI headlights . The two boards with 2-pin connectors will NOT work in LCI adaptive LED headlights in F34. All 4 boards should have 5-pin connectors to work in LCI adaptive headlights.

Additionally:
1. The two boards with 5-pin connection will not work either because the orientation of the plugs interferes with the LCI adaptive heat sink features.
2. Boards for adaptive LCI headlights have 3 LEDs per light tube, not 2 LEDs like in the listing.

White LED boards from F34 LCI adaptive LED headlights look like these:

Ahhh ok I see. Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t even know that some LCI F34s don’t have adaptive LEDs. I assumed all LCIs did. Also, I don’t think your photo/link attached showing the adaptive LCI boards, but I’m looking at them now.

The photo IS of DRL boards from F34 LCI adaptive LED headlights 100%. I know because I have personally installed them in my car a year ago or so (at the time of starting this post).

I thought I'd bump this thread up as I am trying to replace/repair a dim DRL ring on the right side of my car.

Can anyone confirm which LED module I should get? Unfortunately RealOEM is very confusing on this issue.

I have a 2019 F34 LCI model, with Adaptive LED lights.
I believe these are called the "S552A" lights, at least from what I can find.

From RealOEM.com:
For vehicles with Adaptive LED headlight or LED headlight
S552A=No
S5A2A=Yes

LED module, daytime running lights, left 63117493235
LED module, daytime running lights, rgt 63117493236

For vehicles with Adaptive LED headlight and LED headlight
S552A=Yes
S5A2A=No

LED module, daytime running lights, left 63117493237
LED module, daytime running lights, rgt 63117493238

From this, I believe i should be looking for 63117493238

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...it-63117493238

Does this look correct? Whew! The part number is not engraved on the part at all, very hard to determine things.

63117493238 is for Adaptive (aka AHL) LED
63117493236 is for non Adaptive LED

Not interchangeable.

This is how the module should look in your car if it has LCI Adaptive LED headlights:
