I'll test this if you want, including how it responds to cars with power increases.
Currently I'm trying to figure out why all the effort for the fuel to come from the inside of the pump to feed the metering unit. That seems intentional, and with some sort of purpose.

One stupid question, would a diesel additive decrease the chances of fuel “grenading”?
I’ve had a couple of diesels and always have used additive (Diesel Kleen). Last edited by Sinner328; 02-23-2020 at 07:04 PM.. |

If your diesel station provided you with a gallon of condensation water, then no amount of additives will help.

Honestly, i think that design was for ease of machining. I see no specific reason to have that setup except that additional ports would have to be added to avoid this problem. |

I am curious myself. If everything is running great, I would be curious to see how this tests on both Bosch pumps pre-LCI and LCI. I am at 43K, so would definitely like to have something like this if there is no effect on pump operation. An ounce of prevention is definitely worth a pound of cure, even if the likelihood of fuel contamination and pump failure is low.

As you may see in my Post, I have this issue with a 330d LCI Touring (May 2017 build) which is now subject of a dispute with the supplying Dealer. If I get the car back (and your device fits the LCI) I would certainly be interested. My October 2012 330d had no such issuesprior to trading it in for the new one |

PhadeOut there is a thread on Mechanical Maintenance Subforum (erroneously created there instead of this subforum) with multiple 2017 328d's reporting these issues. One person had HPFP fail twice within 6 months of first replacement. Their failures likely point to a fuel station which either has fuel with low lubricity and/or contamination that leads to failure. Given that re-design of HPFP roller occurred (I think) mid-2017, not sure if yours is redesigned or not. However, I am certain fuel contamination can lead to any HPFP failing no matter the roller size - bigger roller probably will take longer to fail, but will still fail. Best prevention is avoiding contaminated fuel, which is easier said than done - you won't likely carry fuel testing lab with you all the time. So this plate from va121mir is supposed to reroute fuel so that failure will only result in pump contamination and not the entire fuel system. Thus, you'd look at $1000 pump replacement vs $10,000+ to replace entire fuel system. BMW extended warranty on HPFP for some, I don't think mine was extended given it is "redesigned" version.

Good evening. I just joined here just so I could see if these are available yet. I have a 2014 328d with 89,000 miles on it and this is totally worth the peace of mind.

Hello, I also joined since I am looking for plans to have this adapter CNC machined.
I noticed also on some VAG forums guys are using this type of adapter, but no one shared publicly or on Thingiverse plans for it. Greetings from Slovenia |

We see quite a bit of CP4 failures here in Norway as well. BMW N47, N57 and other car manufacturers that use these pumps (VAG, Volvo etc). Lower mileage cars, higher mileage cars etc. It has been mentioned that it is VERY important that proper bleeding proceedure via BMW diagnostic is done after diesel filter change, as other methods that seem to be okay on older M47/M57 cars does not work the same way on these. If not this can be bad for the already fragile CP4 pump.

Are there any news, did anyone start making kits for BMW CP4.1 and CP4.2?
I bought CP4.2 disaster prevention kit for Ford Powerstroke engine hoping it will fit CP 4.2 on BMW 6 cyl diesel. Tried to install it today but looks like it wont fit. |

A buddy of mine was able to reverse engineer this for me based on the photos above. After completely replacing my own fuel system I had one of these installed for peace of mind, wish I would have done before I had a failure. I’ve put about 12k miles on my own 2014 328d since without issue.
Serious inquires can contact snsengineeringllc@gmail.com for CP 4.1 prevention plate. This thread is what I somewhat followed to repair myself if its already too late. About $1200. VS $11k quoted from BMW. Also the filter and housing is what I used vs the fancy one above. https://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php...ir-diy.444273/ |
