it doesn't matter if they sell only a dozen or two a year... (I am sure it is slightly more than that of course). The costs to produce variants of the same chassis is very small as opposed to creating an entirely new platform. So... expect more Gran coupes.. GT.. and special models.. and also realize that even Low production #s still add to the profit dollars and the production figures. I have to admit I felt the same way for a bit.... The 4 series Gran Coupe SEEEMS to make no sense when you have a 3 series sedan and a 4 series coupe.... Let's say they sold only 100 4 series Gran Coupes or in the month of June.. (I've seen at least 3 of those myself in DFW with new tags in the last month alone) .. that's an additional 100 cars in the 4 series column.. Same with the 3 series GT and 5 series GT.... Perhaps BMW captured buyers that were not going to go with a 3 or 5 series sedan... and the production #s get added to the 3 series and 5 series figures.... And we know that BMW wants to keep that small sports sedan sales crown for 3/4 series... |

this is US car sales from the month of June.. I know I am in the south.... and it may be a little hotter here sooner... but why did you mention *winter* in a conversation about June sales ? Are you in Australia or something ?

The i3 US sales has to be a disappointment to BMW. I know they will not say it. But dealer lots are still flooded with 2014 models. Even with big incentives they are not moving. Their US sales forecast was 12,000 units for 2015. 4,456 through half the year is dismal.

Haha, good point. Ties in well to your comments in the other thread about production capability at Leipzig.

I had a feeling the X4 wasn't going to sell well in the US market, but I'm pretty sure BMW built this car with the Chinese market in mind. I know I've read that the X6 is a hot seller there.

There's really no point in trying to analyze this. I remember last year when sales of the 3-Series was down one month and people were saying ATS this, Lexus IS this or C-Class. Then the month after that the 3-Series sold a crap load. There are so many factors and variables that unless you sat down and researched all of this, everyone's conclusions don't mean a whole lot.

I also don't recall them splitting apart 3 and 4 series sales figures in the past. I suspect they've begun that practice at this time to demonstrate the growth of the latter, even as it also shows the decline for the former. |

I am curious how the new Clubman will sell too, now that it has four passenger doors. I think the hinged rear cargo doors with pillar in the rear window might keep this from being as widely accepted as it may otherwise have been. But I still suspect it will increase sales by 50% or more compared to the old model. |

a lot of people are buying 4GC instead of 3. and since the 4 costs more its more money for BMW for essentially the same car. 6GC in HK has completely taken over the 6 market. Why not get 4 doors if its looks as good as a 6? A lot of 5 buyers are buying 6GC instead and the 6 costs a lot more for essentially the same car.

Yep, and come next year the 1 Series will return in sedan form, so they'll probably just leave it even after all E82/E88 are gone. It would be nice to see them split them eventually like they are now doing with the 3 and 4; hopefully they will do that.
