I totally understand the desire to want to provide more air to the engine with grill air scoops and larger air intakes. It’s important for anyone with an N55 to know that at the other end of that airflow is a stock Turbo Inlet Pipe with a restriction and an actual opening into the turbo housing that is less than 2” in diameter.
So front airscoops and big ass intakes don’t have much effect at all unless the Turbo Inlet Pipe is also upgraded. For example, on the F30 N55 the MST Turbo Inlet Pipe V2 eliminates the stock pipe restriction and smooths out the airflow to an end fitting with about 40% more potential airflow into the stock turbo housing. See photos. MST Turbo Inlet Pipe for F-Series N55 (Make sure to select the higher flow V2 which is labeled “for aftermarket turbos”. That doesn’t matter because turbo housing is the same.) https://www.kiesmotorsports.com/prod...2109141?aff=22 |

I don't suppose you've got a mirror image one just so I can put them on for symmetry?

Hi,
Could someone please advise me on the correct scale to print this scoop? I attempted to print it from the original file, "Modified-scoopF30," and it turned out to be much too large for my F31. Thank you for your assistance. Best regards, Damir S. |

Here's a theoretical point to consider with these; is it going to increase risk water ingress to the intake? On my Impreza which has a forward facing inlet like this 3d bit, there's a long snorkus that goes into the wing, has a resonator/collector 18" below the inlet, and then a 18" rise back to the airbox. That means any collected water ends up at the bottom of the collector and can drain out the small hole in it. The BMW inlet design to me looks pretty flat which might be why I've seen so many sat at the side of the road absolutely buggered when there's deep water around (or maybe it's down to the drivers!). The intention of this design is obviously to force more air in from directly in front of the car, rather than sucking from the side of the grille. In theory this would seem to make it more susceptible to pulling water in...
