The only way to reduce boost is to go easy on the gas pedal and to drive in eco pro. Anytime your engine runs is technically bad for it |

I like to let it idle for around 30 secs before driving off. Gives the oil a little bit of time to circulate and coat the internals a bit.

I start up and drive off immediately, keeping revs below 3000rpm until oil temp gauge moves into normal zone.

Idling doesnt warm up the oil, it only warms the seat
Like other said, warm it 30-50 seconds and go

Immediately after I step on the brake pedal and push the start button, I throw the trans into drive and take off like a bat out of hell. Once floored I'm past 7 RPM's and I hold it around 7.5 RPM's for a good 10 minutes. Then, at the end of my journey I quickly turn off the engine after being at 5.5 RPM's
As stated before I wait 30 seconds then drive off until normal temps hit and then I get on it. |

You cannot damage your car by using it with in reason. Think about how costly that would be for the manufacturer and the publicity damage.
IF it was important to keep the revs under 3000rpm the first 10min - there would be a special rev limiter in the car for this. IF it was important to let the car idle before driving off there would be a function preventing you from driving off. To save the environment drive off immediately. This way the catalytic converter and the car itself will warm up the quickest.

Since there is nothing to stop us from pulling the parking brake at 80MPH.....that must be A-ok too right? Seriously, do you turn the car on and then redline it? Quote:
You don't need to "warm" the engine to operating temp, but hitting 3000RPM before the starter gear has even stopped spinning is pretty foolish IMHO.

As an aircraft pilot, I will say that we start and go! Hahaha! So I treat my cars the same. Turbines do get to operating temperature very shortly after start-up, our car engines do not. So I do drive it maturely until the oil temp is high enough .

It takes my computer 30 seconds for the "accept" option to come on. I wait for that or it messes up my flash drive music. It loses where it was at. It takes 10 miles before my oil is up to its usual operating temperature. I just start driving the car in a sane fashion 30 seconds after starting the engine, until the oil is warmed up. I never worry about turbo cool-down. I have too much city driving before I get to any destination.

I let it sit for about 30sec only if the engine is cold like a morning start up, because if the engine is cold and I try to drive off right away the car jerks a couple of times as if the gas hasn't reach destination for whatever reason

It would seem to me that warming up too fast could cause thermal shock.
That's why I wait for 30 to 50 secs. Some interesting reading along a similar vein: https://books.google.com/books?id=ZA...engine&f=false Last edited by 401FlaGATOR; 10-15-2015 at 09:57 PM.. |
