There IS a sensor on the back side of the mirror, but isn't that just for the mirror? When I cover it with my hand during the day, the mirror dims, but the headlights to not come on.

Hi Don't get me started!
Hate auto wipers, hate auto lights and hate auto gearbox. They are reactionary, all three. I see a tunnel ahead I turn the lights on, I don't wait til I'm 50 yds in for some 2 bit microchip to notice!

I don't have auto wipers on my BMW, I have to turn them on every time it rains. Then turn them back on if I stop for a coffee. That isn't auto. They are unlike VW, Audi, Ford when they just come on, er like lights in the dark!

Lights? Here in Blighty it's regularly foggy in the day. Do auto lights come on? No. There is a warning about this buried in the manual. The warning should be on the dash. It isn't beyond the wit of man to think "see and be seen" then turn headlights/wipers on as necessary.
