Had a close up look round a type r, looked like it had been driven through ripspeed, very plastic fantastic, and wasn't the best put together either.

Really interested in your thoughts on the Golf R - saw a GTD the other day and thought it looked stunning. The rear LED styling looked banging in the dark.

Okay, the R styling is a bit boring and run of the mill but knowing you have that power under your foot would allow me to look past it. I like that's it a subtle brand of batshit mental...

Test driven Golf R. It's just brilliant. That is all.

That's what we found with the Civics including the R, for the price very poor looking.

Definitely built to a price, unfortunately that appears to be £10k below asking price.

In my opinion, they are equal but both have different strengths. The Golf R is probably about 90%as exciting as the m135i, but is a more usable car day to day.

The traction in the R is infallible. The controls are light yet rewarding. The noise is very nice. And it did 32mpg on the same route that the civic did 24!

The BMW for me is still more exciting, but not as practical or useable in all conditions.

The M135i has a better interior in my eyes whoever said the golf has a jewel like quality is a plumb.

I fell in love with the R more so than the M135i. But then I went and looked at an S3

Test drive booked for next weekend. If it drives as well as the R, I think the S3 will be the winner for me. ETTO.

Have you considered the S3 saloon, I saw one the other day and it really is rather attractive, the hatch just looks a bit dumpy imo.

No good on practicality to fit bike/ pram etc in the back. It is nice though and o would prefer it tot the sportback...

Specced correctly and the sportback looks good in my eyes.

What about the woeful boot space on the golf R if that's a concern?

BTW, with the regards the Golf R .. I thought you hated 4WD? (as you've mentioned a few times with regards the 335d )
Isnt that the reason you got rid of the 335d and are a fan of the 330d sdrive?

No! X Drive I hated, due to the terrible suspension making the 335d wollowey. I have nothing against Haldex.

That I DO agree with!!! You probably never fitted ACS springs then?

Apparently the LCI 335d xdrive is A LOT better. In fact, I dont think I've heard anyone complaining about the ride/handling so sounds like BMW got their act together...........
Would still be interested to see what a ACS'd 335d LCI would be like. I'm sure someone will do it a some point.

Best offer I've had for a new Golf R PCP:

£1k deposit
£351pm
48 months
4.8%apr

Would be base white. 18" wheels. Winter pack. Tinted glass. Manual.

I'm waiting to hear from Audi....

By pretty much all critics accounts, it doesn't.

I think the S3 is a really poor design visually, and the quality of the interior is now very far away from the higher end Audi's with the integrated nav in the speedo etc. I had the old TTS which always had a slightly nicer interior than the equivalent 8p S3 but now the gap between new TTS and S3 is huge. Not worth the premium IMO.

Why don't you just get your favourite car of all time the 330d xdrive?

This is also what I have read. Golf r seems the better drivers car.

I was considering a 330d s drive. If I wanted the c drive experience I would just hire a bouncy castle for the weekend.

Thing is in this country we just don't have the weather - it's rained pretty much every day for the last month or so, and the xdrive (with ACS springs) is just awesome. I'm so glad I have it at the moment and not an s drive.
