Since rear OEM lists a ASD module for F30 335i then its a good shout it does. IMO not too fussed. The car is so quiet I can see why they put it in as otherwise you would not hear it.
Maybe they should have done it on physical way ala Ford but then BMW likes the gadgets. In a way shame you cant tune it would be interesting if you could code or select different modes. Especially for the coding crowd would be bit of fun to be abled to change the ASD to different cars. Might have to go digging in the car to find it. http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...90&hg=65&fg=25

I think if you look at the amplifier in the trunk you can see the asd device plugged into the amp. Elsewhere on this site there is discussion about how to disable. I don't like it and think it beneath BMW, at least the old BMW, to use bullshit like this. Not only that why distort the audio signal with something other than the audio. Total fail of a concept.

if there is active sound on my '15 435 GC, it's extremely subtle. Exhaust noise inside the cabin all the way up the rev range is minimal. Most of the higher rev music is coming from the engine.
Contrary to the M235 i test drove a handful of times and it was much more obvious. |

I thought the 2015 328's had active sound. I went through a series of 328 loaners for a week and the 2014 I had made not much noise at all, the 2015 had a noticeable difference in tone and to me it was very nice - one of the big reasons I did NOT buy a 328 in 2013 was the lack of growl from the engine. The 2015 I drove changed my mind on that completely.
Fake or not, sound waves are sound waves and my ears can't tell a difference.

Has it ever been confirmed that the source of the sound is physically located in/on the amp as opposed to sourced from the head unit? I've replaced my OEM amp and am wondering if I killed off my Active Sound once and for all.

It's attached to the amp. If you replaced your amp, you most likely removed asd with it.

Interesting...how does it work (or DID it work, in my case)? Is it like a mic that picks up real exhaust sound and amplifies/feeds it into the audio system? Or is it actually just total artificial sound generated electronically and played over the speakers? I'll have to open up the old amp...there really was nothing to the thing. It was light and tiny.
