the 335 automatic shifts freakin' fast! I drove one the other day at the dealer, and omfg I was shocked as to how fast it shifts, and how it keeps the engine in the right rev-band...

Test drove one today. Disappointed steering! Fast upshifts but not that fast downshift! Love the different mods you can select though. Cant believe my 2012 135i with 6000 miles is worth 3XXXX now or else i would definitly trade it in.

I was watching the temperature gauge rise in the 328 as the car accelerated. Remember all the issues we had with the early N54's without oil coolers? Does anyone know if an oil cooler is standard on the 328/N20, or whether it only comes on Sport models, or what?

I can tell you I went with the 328 after test drive because it is a beautiful engine that gives you everything you need in the city. Also, I truly believe there is no way in hell the N55 will not be redesigned in the near future. The close comparisons/performance was to move 328i units. But the 335 or whatever its next model will be tabbed will be an absolute beast compared to what we are seeing now. I had an 07 335i previously and no 328i unless it was modified was in the same league performance wise until the F30 just arrived on the scene.

probably just me (poor ole 328i owner) but look at the settings of the gearbox : the 335i is in S(port) mode whereas the 328i is in D (normal drive). and if you believe there is no difference between the settings.... I just got back from Italy and between Perugia (Italy) and Antwerp (Belgium) there is like 600 miles of German Autobahn.... Granted not all of them are 'unlimited' but a couple of stretches are... that 328i was absolutely great, I hit the limiter a lot faster than I thought I would. Does start to get a bit wobbly at 240km/h though. But the thing is : but the car in Sports, kick the gear selector to the left and just don't bother with the gearbox anymore. Just steer and be amazed. be very, very amazed...

I think the fact that the F30 328 vs 335 question is so hard for many of us (me included) is a win for the 328. However I am still not completely sure but I really liked both engines a lot. Wish there was a comparison video with all variables equal.
Thx for posting the videos. They were helpful.

Since the Touring's the only one I'd consider, the 335 is only interesting in that it's not much quicker. Bummer to hear the downshift annoyances. |
