I know sucks we can’t actually change it.
But xhp could have just thrown some better shift points in the tables for sport and sport plus. Do they even know how bad it feels ? Spoke to a few people now with the hp70 swap and we all have this. Losing sport and sport plus shift points and just being left with some weird half a throttle to activate downshifts is pretty bad trade off Literally all that needs doing is copy sport /sport plus shift points from hp50 paste the shift points in the hp70 tables. If I had the software they use I’d do it myself spent half a day looking found lots of software for the zf but not for BMWs xhp mainly got the market on that Why people that have had this done would live with it I don’t know Surely if we all speak to xhp they might listen and send out an update file for xhp. Would not take much work for them to fix this Last edited by BmwM140i; 03-13-2022 at 08:28 PM.. |

Shiftpoints do not change with Sport and Sport+ when being in comfort mode. The DEC switch works as a shift speed selector.
So you choose your shift-speed with the DEC switch and you select the shiftpoints with the lever. Thats like it is on all xHP calibrations for N55 and/or B58. In stock setting BMW did go a double-route. Moving the lever to S OR putting the DEC to Sport does exactly the same thing. With xHP it does 2 different things, so you have more modes to access. It's outlined in the article here: https://www.xhpflashtool.com/blog/ho..._logic_of_8hp/ However, we just uploaded a "Stage 2" for 8HP70 swaps, which retains the stock logic. Just use this file instead, if you like it more. (on other cars the Stage 1 will do the same) |

It’s not how the button works it’s the weird shift points in D mode it’s always aiming for 8th gear quick as it can and to get it to gear change takes a lot of throttle. then on other side of things S is not good for daily spirited There’s no happy medium On the hp50 shift points were perfect. Could we get that feature updated into the hp70 stage 3 file? Guessing it is this from the hp50 xhp description Recalibrated shift points in D mode to improve throttle response. This should make it feel like the hp50 did with xHP Last edited by BmwM140i; 03-24-2022 at 05:39 PM.. |

Little silver lining.. if you turn on switch of sport mode in cruise.. it makes S mode change gear slightly sooner doesn’t hang gears out as long … feels better for daily spirited driving.
D mode still feels like crap doing 30mph in 7th-8th gear then having to push 70% throttle to change gear is not what the 140i was made for. Really hope xhp address this |

Curious on this too. Pure stage 2 trans rebuilds the entire trans but 10K out the pocket is incredibly huge. So is the consensus that the HP70 does not drive like the HP50 but can handle more power?

Ask Trevor @ BimmerNetworkPerformance. He runs an HP70 swap in his built motor 340i. Although it's probably not his daily and uses it for 1/4 runs at the drag strip. He still may be able to point you in the right direction.

So what I am wondering, is the ZF8HP70 Transmission seems to be used by a few different manufactures. Dodge uses them, Jeep ( Same as Dodge ) Jaguar F Pace AWD uses said trans.
Couldn't any of the above be used? I mean you would need to hard wire the OEM plugs to BMW. That's pretty easy with the wire diagram. My transmission is acting up, not sure what's going on with it. It will only except D1 and Rev gear. When I try to switch it to S or M mode it kicks me back to D1 and if I try driving it jumps to D5. Transmission was not acting funky at all, i was driving, rolled into the throttle and i heard a bang. That was that.... So not sure if trans is shot or if it is an electronic issue.. |

I figured that much, an adapter plate would not be that hard to have made. So on my 240sx, i ran a 6spd from the 350Z, I had to cut 3/4 of an inch off the bellhousing to allow for an adapter plate. Also to maintain proper length for input shaft.
We could get around the bellhousing issue fairly easy IMO. The reason I bring this up, is the BMW ZP70 trans seems to be a little harder to get here in the states and its not cheap. To where there are several option out there as I mentioned of manufactures using the ZP70 and they are cheap.. So, I am wondering what other obstacles would there be.... Wiring, right? I would imagine they all use the same splines. It wouldn't be cost effective for the manufacture to have different splines for every car that uses said transmissions. I am only putting the idea out there because it would benefit all of us as a hole.. Just slinging ideas around... Thoughts? |

Output shafts are beefier on the BMW versions over most of the other (non performance) options.

True, it was just a thought, seeing how the BMW HP70 is a little harder to find here in the States. I have no idea what's gone on with my trans, M240ix. There was no slippage. I was drive shifted from 2nd to 3rd in manual mode. Heard ( felt ) a bang and lost all my forward gears. I reflashed it back to stock and refreshed XHP, had to use Xdelete to get the car home in 1st gear. I'm not sure how to post a video on here. I was hoping maybe someone has had a similar situation.
