This thread was very helpful for me and I wanted to share what I went with.
For the low beams, I used philips crystal white. It is a new bulb rated at 4300 K and supposedly 60% brighter. This is higher than the current Osram and philips CV ultra. I got it on powerbulbs website. They are brighter and whiter than stock. On the DRL I got the following on amazon. They are LED, no flickering that I can see or errors. Not as bright as you might think, but they are only on during the day so I am not sure. The light is white. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o01_s00 There is another model by same seller that is $5 more and probably brighter. On installing low beams, here is my two cents. I jacked the car up but did not take of the wheels. This added enough clearance for me as the wheels stayed on the ground. I bent the brackets to take the bulbs out. Don't worry about the bulb being loose when putting in the new ones. Mine were, and I simple took the bulbs out and bent more. Repeat until it is tight enough to your liking. Also, the bulbs are keyed at the base. I did not know this and could not figure out why they would not go back in initially. As I recall, the flat part of the base goes up. |

So just received the Philips Diamond Vision (DV). They look amazing and perfect white with hint of blue. Visibility in rain compared to Crystal Vision (CV) (on passenger side) feels very similar if not the same. Also this is with the PA parking light LEDs (which have error but go away after a minute or two). The CV seemed much whiter than stock but compared to DV they are insanely yellow lol! Overall very happy with outcome
Besides the cutoff lines, the color temp looks close to the xenons on the F10 sitting in the garage surprisingly.

Just wanted to post an update. The PA bulb for the parking light throws error for me. If you use auto start/stop you will get more errors after startup.
I ended up buying this, which has a separate error canceller. It gets hot, and in retrospect I would just get the car coded. http://www.amazon.com/iJDMTOY-CAN-bu...6w+bmw+f30+led Or if you want to stick to a whiter halogen, you can do philips blue vision. http://www.powerbulbs.com/us/product...idelight-bulbs Hope this helps! |

Did you guys use any tools to install/uninstall low beam? Do I remove the harness first, then bend the bottom two clips because i don't think you can really get to bottom 2 clips with the harness on.

I did not use any tools. Bending the clips to take out the bulbs is the easy part. You only need to bend it like 1 mm or less and it loosens up. I removed the harness first.
It is harder to bend the clips back in place when putting the new bulbs in. |

I had no problems the second time. First time was cautious bending clips back and I left the wheel on just turned all the way. Just remember the way you take out the bulbs so you put them in same way.
And great choice with DV. Also get the parking light so it works perfectly

I already have the parking light LED from IJDMTOY. It sucks.. They say it's xenon white but it's more like purple, close to 10000k - 12000k I guess this Purple is their definition of HINT of blue.

im going to try to return my IJDMTOY H6W and buy the one you linked. I can code mine to get rid of the error. As long as it doesn't flicker while driving like IJDMTOY, im fine

SlugMaster, WhoIsThis & Atl0501,
Not meaning to be pain, but there are two separate aspects that we have entwined in this discussions: • First, if LED bulb does not have resistor (built in or hooked in), the bulb will flicker -- think that has to do with normal variations in current (which for incandescent bulb would merely be a variation in intensity) -- and may cause errors. • Second, BMWs have two built-in diagnostics to check whether the bulb is working: cold (at start up); and warm (periodically, think it is every 4 minutes). If the car gets nothing back, then there is an error code or something to indicate a bad bulb. For the first aspect, getting error-free bulbs will be the cure; while coding is the only way to overcome the second, which you can operate the car safely with no problems (I know I did for a couple of weeks). BTW, while there three items to code for each LED you install, it is not difficult -- will be happy to provide further details Hope that helps! Have attached my Bulb Chart

Thanks for the offer ro_f30! On my parking light, with the external canceller, there is no flicker at startup or strobing after. Also no error in dash. On the day time running light, I get flicker at startup. Does anyone know the circuit in the canceller? I am guessing it is resister and capacitor, or some IC mix with active components.
I use the headlights on auto, which usually starts up with the low beams on. I think this is why I rarely notice the DRL flickering, as it only turns on after you start driving and not in cold check. The parking light is almost always on though, and if it flickers at startup it will probably be noticeable. Anyway, I am going to get the car coded. I think this is a better soln. If I attempt to do this myself I will PM. Not sure how hard it is or to get the cable. |
