I might buy a 3GT... I really LOVE the 5GT interior but the exterior is tough to fall in love with.

When we bought our E91, the sales people kept trying to steer us to an X3, eventhough we said we wanted an xi wagon. I admit part of it, was that it is hard to find an xi wagon in the Los Angeles area, but they were not being much help. So, I have to wonder two things 1) Why are the car companies not marketing the wagons as vehicles that are as useful as an SUV and more fun to drive and 2) if the profit margin for the dealer/BMWNA is much higher for the SAVs than for the tourings. |

Of course this is the case and I think that Daniel's observation plays a big part of it. When was the last time that a 3 series touring was featured in any North American marketing material? If customers are truly choosing between two BMW models, and if BMW is honestly concerned about Efficient Dynamics, why don't they support the lighter weight, better handling and equally utilitarian touring models instead of only the SAVs? It would only help their CAFE numbers...

You are right guys.
As an exemption, when I bough my e91, I was looking for the X3 or e91 and the senior seller really push me into the e91. The x3 was an old model and really not efficient. In Germany and UK, the e91 is very popular.. |

Then they should increase the price by $1000 dollars on the wagon, you can get the touring, BMW get the profit and everybody is happy.

I'm right there with you. I sold my E90 M3 and am now shopping for a 2012 GTR. I test drove a 2012 and all I can say is oh my god! It is unbelievable how fast this car is. Not as practical as the M3 which I think is a better all around daily driver, but I wanted scary fast and the GTR is it. Plus, I wasn't too happy when some grandpa blew my M3 away with his Panamera Turbo. That's not going to happen to me in the GTR (especially after a tune and turbo back exhaust!).
By the way, the guy who let me drive his GTR also owns a 458 Italia and Gallardo LP560-4 and he LOVES driving the 2012 GTR.

A friend from the UK or indeed any other country sends me scans or clippings of magazines that portray a BMW whether past , present or future.
Today I have been sent some examples of the BMW 4er , or as it will be known as the BMW 3er Gran Turismo. Because in China for example - 4 by itself is considered unlucky. Given that China will be a key market for the Gran Turismo 3er, and it could also be built there alongside the China Market only 3er Li Longwheelbase Sedan which the 3er GT shares a platform with. Given that the 5er Gran Turismo preceded the 5er Sedan in production and concept , this will not happen with the 3er. Again like the 5er , The 3er Gran Turismo will appear as a "Pre-Vision Concept" although the 5er GT in production form was seen before the new 5er. For the Concept you will see the 3er GT Concept before the new 3er. The rendering concentrates on the final exact shape but some details are exaggerated especially the bluntness of the rear. It is bit more streamlined dynamic looking and less bulkier than the (6er) lights on the render. The headlights I can say are very close to the finished car. Given that the BMW signature headlight shape is now being immitated left, right and center. It is only right that BMW designers seek to add new interpretations to maintain a single identity. The 3er Coupe also uses the same formula to add increased sportiness to the front of the car. As does the upcoming new BMW 1er Sporthatch.

IAA will be the official launch at an autoshow and on homeground for BMWi.
So in between the rest of the BMW brands and sub-brands BMW i will have it's own section focusing on the Concept car of the i3 MegaCity Vehicle which you shall learn about in August. BMW will return with it's indoor arena and driving track to showcase new models such as the BMW i3 Concept , BMW 1er Sporthatch and the BMW M5 Sedan. BMW will also show a Concept Car and focus on the next generation 1er which will have it's own "road" with every example on show within the large BMW Hall , A new MINI Concept detailing the next generation and Rolls-Royce will showcase something involving the Ghost. In conclusion this years IAA is turning out to be a world class event.

Ah, ok. I just figured that with the F20 1 series and F10 M5 production car debut it was getting too crowded at that show. But it sounds like they have a whole bunch of other stuff already so why not the 3GT too?

I hope this is true. I think I can make that time frame work. Late 2012 summer/fall as reported in the first post is probably too long away for me and force me to look at other cars. With the reported increased size of the F30, it should be the right size for me. If they lift the interior from the 5 that will address my concern on the interior as well. Now all I have to do is wait for more teaser photos |
