That vehicle (notice I did not say "car"), is a bad alternative to a minivan. It looks like a cross between a hearse and a '70s Pinto.
If you need space an SUV would certainly do the trick better than that. |

Did you really just say you'd rather have a minivan than a touring (wagon)?

I love the US and love visiting the UK.. Sad to see a few ignorant posts ruining this thread..

I voted yes. But the fact is that I'd have to buy it for that to be so. If I dispose of my SUV, it'd be a very high contender as the replacement. But then so would the X1 and the X3. At this point, no telling which would win out.

The main market for diesel in the States is for people who want giant trucks to drive around the city, but want to bump the mileage from 6 to 8 mpg (and a minority that actually use them for legitimate work). lol I seem to remember euro cars showing up with diesel engines in the 80s or some decade long ago, and most Americans got real turned off to diesel cars because of these dirty beasts that required constant maintenance. Every now and then you'll still see an older Mercedes rolling around with the whole bottom rear a grimy black.(correct me if I'm not completely accurate)
As for 3er wagons, they're 'cute', but not for me. I'm more in the SUV or small truck category. If I want to haul that much shit, I also want to be able to go offroad and tow a boat. With the back seats down in my 335i, I have plenty of room for the common occurances (snowboard, groceries, rucksack, etc) I admire the Europeans for developing better diesel car technology of late, but it's of a necessity that just isn't quite present in the States. Premium petrol is something like euro 1.80/litre in Germany, but with my US fuel card I get it at $1.00/litre. If I had to pay the euro price, I'd be more inclined to get a diesel or at least a smaller motor also. Europeans are also much less likely (it seems) to have more than one car, so the Wagon is prudent for those who need to haul cargo, but want better mileage than an SUV. Us big lard assed* Americans also love to have multiple houses and vehicles, which allows some of us to specialize instead of compromising. Last edited by KellerKiller; 02-08-2013 at 04:40 PM.. |

I think a lot is tongue in cheek though. There will always be ties to our British brethren. Except for driving on the wrong side of the road

I think our British friends aimed at tongue and cheek. One of our fellow American's got a little snotty. Otherwise, I have been enjoying this post...

Nah, 330D looks cool on paper (and I am a fan of our X5D which the wife drives, great mileage etc so far), but if I am getting a BMW sport coupe for me, it is gonna run on gas and have in inline 6 / 6MT.

Inline 6 and manual tranny for me as well. I would consider that in a saloon or touring. I'm done with coupes.

A few months ago I filled out a website survey for them and suggested a night time mode to demonstrate the vehicle's lighting. Here we are now with a glorious night shot! Although I'm sure I'm not the only consumer/employee to suggest this...

performance?
I have seen some pretty nice looking wagons around here. Every now and then I see a great looking S4 wagon or a 3 Series wagon. I used to like the old saab 9-3x too, but I think those were just subarus. I always find myself envious of the uniqueness and practicality of the car and the somewhat cool statement it makes.... but after I look at the car for a while, I realize that I just don't have any desire to drive a wagon, when SUVs are soo readily available. Our X5 is a great car like drive with more room than any 3 series wagon.
So, what are the performance comparisons between the 330d and the 335i? I don't care about torque numbers or torque feel, as much as I care about the car moving me from point A to point B faster. |
