Here is the best I can find... but not sure how these 7-pins map into the FEM and into which connector. f30GTR - you said that in your lock/latch, you already have 5 of the 7 wires (and 2 missing). Of those remaining 5, you said 2 to the LED? I'm not sure what that means, because in the table below, there's nothing that indicates anything for LEDs. There are 3 wires for the Hall Effect sensor, 3 wires for actuating the motorized door lock, then one for ground. I'm guessing the 3 hall effect wires are for the CA, but i'm confused because you said there are 2 missing wires??

Technic, am I correct to assume that the 0.35 in the diagrams is the wire gauge in mm? Also does anybody know what the abbreviations gr/ws and all others mean?

Not sure what the 0.35 is, but the gr/ws are color codes. There are little color bars next to those codes to show you what they are. Without looking at the pic, 'gr' will either be green or grey.

ah... that explains the LEDs then. i'm still a little baffled what those 2 missing wires are. they don't seem to map crisply to the remaining wires in the table.

Make sure you pick up some of this OEM BMW Tesa cloth tape to make your wire/cabling runs look MINT Same stuff run all over your car. You never know who's going to peek under the covers when you least expect it ... |

I didn't find the connector from bmw but this connector from Audi is the same 4E0 972 144. Someone used it on bimmerfest http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...&postcount=287 The other connector that will be needed is for the door handle. 4 pin. I think the 2 pin connector for the antenna is shown on realoem. |

This thread has progressed so fast and furious in the last day or two, I think its doubled in size in that time
If I take a step back to absorb it all, here is what I think we are seeing is needed just for a driver-side only CA retrofit. And if this is true, i'm really really getting excited about this.. especially the cost However, there is still some questions:
A High-Level Block Diagram and a Preliminary Minimum Part List ... does this look Ok so far? Last edited by squidlyboy; 04-11-2015 at 04:15 AM.. |

Doesn't each FEM quad-lock like connector already come with these pre-installed? I thought all we needed to do is to attach new pins to an end of a wire and push it in (from the back) to the right pin hole in an existing connector. Did you actually see some of the FEM connectors missing their inner connectors? Also, the more I think about this 7-wire latch, i'm beginning to think that all that is needed for the CA retrofit are these 2 extra wires that you identified as missing in your current lock/latch. I mean.. the 5 wires you currently have already go somewhere, so they must already be used (functional) for something in the existing locking mechanism. Also, the diagram that showed the lock (without the pin numbers) I posted earlier showed only 2 wires - one was ground and one went into some unknown location in the FEM. And whatever that location is, its got to be a signal line that tells the latch to lock/unlock. Just a random thought by a guy who needs some coffee right now... |

To answer you first question apparently not. BMW have seemed to have switched to some very lean production where if things are not needed they are not installed. My blue 9B connector only contains 1 of these rows and it's grey. Also to go back to your previews post. The list of parts is correct. If CA works only with driver's door only that would be awesome. BMW has comfort access and convenience access that work pretty much the same as far as hardware. CA deals with the doors and convenience is for your push/start button. Since A.S.S. is part of the push/start button that is why it shows up often in diagrams. Also the 2 internal antennas that I took pictures from the shifter and rear vents are for to detect the key when it's in your pocket. So when you combine CA and convenience access that is how you get 6 antennas. You end up with 3 internal antennas. 2 we already have because push/start/stop and 1 more in your trunk for tailgate but i hope we don't have to go that far for to get CA working. And there are the 3 external, 2 in the side skirts and 1 in the rear bump again for the trunk. All in all we should only need 1 antenna to work. My biggest concern is FEM complaining about missing parts like the passenger door and other antennas. Also wiring the new cables through the door to chassis connector is going to be pain. We also need female and male connectors to install into the door plugs. Last edited by f30GTR; 04-09-2015 at 09:32 AM.. |

Technic, I am not sure if this would be correct or what I am doing wrong. When I do the conversion online with these calculators it gives me gauge 29 would be the closest but there is no way the cables are gauge 29. That is way too small of a cable. The wires in cat6 cables are bigger gauge 24. Am i missing something? I don't have a gauge measure tool. I might have to get one.

No go. I was given only the harness for the doors and they said as far as they can tell the harness goes into FEM is part of the main harness. We will have to make harness.
I was given a different part number for front driver door 61129313629. RealOEM doesn't have this part number but ECS has it. Last edited by f30GTR; 04-09-2015 at 02:38 PM.. |
