Do you think it would be a case of it was stuck closed/open? Expected to see a lot of oil in there really

Not convinced this will be my problem though. There’s no tears or obvious damage to the rubber diaphragm.

Indy said they done a smoke test and something else to confirm it was a failed PCV.

I guess I will just have to monitor oil consumption for now and potentially get them to re test it with the new PCV.

Is there anything else related to the PCV inside the rocker cover that may have failed? Don’t want to just start throwing parts at it.
That's how my membrane looked as well, my 435d used a litre of oil out of the blue.
Changed with a Ridex one from autodoc and so far back to no loss of oil. (1000M)
Hope it stays that way

I bought a reconditioned one on EBay from vehiclo_ltd on an exchange basis

I paid 353 for the refurbished turbo and paid a 200 deposit that you get back when they receive the old turbo

As soon as we started the car it was bubbling and smoking from the exhaust housing

Luckily we noticed immediately so I will be sending it straight back. I contacted them and they said they will do an ‘investigation’ when they receive it back

Obviously I just want my money back now and I will probably just get my old unit refurbished instead 🥲

Just buy a new unit from Garrett and take peace of mind from the 2 year guarantee.

More expensive in terms of ££ but a lot less hassle.

When I replaced the turbo on my 330d I initially opted for a hybrid turbo. It leaked oil like a sieve. The hybrid turbo was sent back to the supplier for investigation and they tried to convince me that all the components were high quality and within tolerance, but couldn’t explain the puddle of oil on the workshop floor (all photographed and video recorded). Eventually, and without much resistance, they refunded me the full purchase price and the workshop labour charges.

It was still a complete ballache though, with my car unusable for weeks.

I should have just bought a new Garrett unit from the outset (which has, so far, been perfect and with zero oil consumption).

FFS, what a pain in the hoop.

Honestly, this is why I buy genuine parts because I cannot be arsed with the shoddy standards these days, grrrrr.

A brand new unit is about a grand. Don't waste your time with refurbished ones. This one is the exact same unit the factory fitted, just less the BMW branding.

A new Garrett turbo (806094-5011S) was £855 inc VAT and delivery in November 2021.

Bought from Turbo Active (sales@turboactive.com / 01740 646960), a Garrett-approved reseller, was very knowledgeable/helpful, and competitively priced.

Well I wish it was that cheap now haha they’ve just quoted me 879 + VAT so it’s nearer £1100 🥲 might have to be done though

Before you go down the new route speak to the guys at Turbo Force, Bamber Bridge local to me.

They're who did the full refurb on the turbos on my F31 and who my motorsport mechanic pal uses and they've been absolutely faultless.

They've done a lot of work for him on some seriously high powered track builds etc... They're old skool...

They're 'if I fell over I'd fall through their front door' close to me

Literally around the corner...

But good guys; very old skool. If you pop into see them you'll see what I mean

But a proper job is what they do and a proper job is what you'll get, if that makes sense
