I've got a strange feeling that the 2013 F30 is going to have the newer Nav system 609.
My dealer didn't say that but after realizing that I had more info than he did, he asked me to order mine in July. Hmmm...quite interesting but only time will tell.

This is awesome. I'm glad BMW takes the time in designing their navigation system, an area which most manufacturers half ass.
All they need to do in enable links to bluetooth input devices. Unless I'm outdated an they already do that

My feeling is that the people that are the first to order a new product and then complain about the subsequent updates are precisely the ones that BMW will lose if they didn't do frequent updates.

Let the software engineers do their job. It's good for BMW. But if you have already bought your car, so be it. IMHO the car must drive properly. These are all.. let's just say... a bonus and not a deal breaker.
Blah. I've gone through several cars... from the bare bones 2006 E90 N46 320i (no iDrive, no dimming mirrors, no auto wipers/headlights and no cruise control) to the 2011 E90 LCI N46 320i with everything (iDrive Navi Pro, dimming mirrors, auto wipers/headlights, cruise, bi-xenon, blah blah) BUT I got a stupid GM tranny on my E90 LCI. Old had ZF. I can't describe how much I hated the GM tranny and how much I hated the way BMW messed up the way the throttle behaves in the 2011 E90 LCI. I just traded in the E90 LCI for a 2011 base model F10 with the N52B25 (here in Asia b/c road taxes would kill us with a 3.0L engine) and I'm loving every minute of it. Speaking from my personal POV and experience I can tell you that I will trade for a better driving car vs bells and whistles any day. Bells and whistles can be retrofitted in time to come, but the engine and tranny sticks with you for the life of your car ownership. I just see this as the IT department installing an upgrade to Adobe Photoshop. Nevermind the old version... at least I still have my Quad Core i5 with 16GBs of RAM. This is a hardware and software update so older cars probably won't be able to update. F30 owners don't blame BMW. This version was probably stuck in testing for a long time and didn't make the launch timeframe. It's not a major update. The current system is superb.

They put it in the high-margin cars first (5er, 3er Active Hybrid), and it can trickle down to the volume sellers in another 1-3 years. I think they'll wait for the F30 LCI to implement it. |

Looks really good!
There's now way around nav system updates. As it is, OEM systems often fall behind the latest portable devices in terms of functionality since they're harder to "refresh" and don't get revamped as frequently. From the info, this looks like a very well designed system. +1 for BMW. |

..and at the same time I wonder if this can be coded in and, if so, if those coded F30's will not have this system before the LCI's lol

This got discussed thoroughly, too. Although the Nav changes might look like they could be "coded" or simply a software update, I'm fairly certain there is a serious hardware upgrade involved. Not saying that someone won't pull a DIY for it someday, just that it's not something you're dealer's going to do next time you're getting the oil changed.

Yup you're right about the press release. However it doesn't rule out the 2013 F30 sedans from getting the upgrade. As mentioned in my previous post, time will tell. I've spoken to whoever I need to and tried getting confirmation. All I'm saying is that I have a 'strange' feeling it may get updated sooner than expected. I may also be wrong. Let's just see what happens...it's not something that a buyer should get worried about but only something that would improve the Nav system already being used. I believe someone on this thread tried calling BMW HQ and also got a positive response... We'll find out in 5-6 weeks time...

If they made it available for the hybrid F30 it will be available before lci for sure on all models. Otherwise they would not have put it only in the hybrid ... Doesn't make sense... The same happens all the time. Latest e9x got upgraded cic with new features that required hardware upgrade... Which is not on older models... Bluetooth music streaming artwork etc...

I'm almost certain that I saw somewhere that this was using some of the new automotive nvidia graphics cards to power it. This seems true given that it would be trivial for them to switch their production lines to a newer software revision and they're not upgrading newly produced F30s. Most likely the F30 doesn't have the graphics processing power or memory necessary to run the new software. Unfortunately a product of taking so long to go from engineering to production. . .

And E90eric, you're right about Nvidia. This is why it's not going to be an update to existing iDrive systems: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=472198 |

Text to Speech finally? Still nothing like current speech, next turn indicator, etc, like a true standalone GPS. Those should be selectable display options! This GPS is still lacking IMO.
