The complete list of affected VINs has been posted on the 'fest. There are only 45 cars in the U.S. that are affected.

And as you already (correctly) pointed out, the recall notice look-up on BMW's U.S is no help, since none of these 45 VINs shows an open recall, either.

This is probably a bad day at work for the service guys at the dealership. You pray that you can space out and do a few easy oil changes, some brake pad replacements and call it a day and some bozo brings in 1 of 45 cars affected by this service bulletin and manages to have crankshaft damage requiring a full engine replacement, ugghhh, who wants to go to Chotchkies for coffee?

Kidding aside, the dealer would make a nice chunk of change if they did the recall service. If they were smart they would locate those vins and give them a call.

A little side benefit to having those numbers posted here, down the road, when shopping for a used car, folks who Google the VIN will find this thread. I just tried it and it already gives a Google hit.

So I have a manual 340i 6MT with a production completion date of Nov 10, 2015. My car was assembled in South Africa. Thankfully, my VIN is NOT listed. Sequentially speaking, my VIN appears to be later than the ones affected.
Speaking of VINs, isn't the 7th to last, or 11th, digit the production plant? If so, N is South Africa, so it looks like these were all built there. Someone please confirm this. |

My VIN is less than 3 dozen off of the VINs listed so I really can't say for sure if I'm in the clear. It's like the 6MT cars that were built the ~day before mine in South Africa were all affected.

I'm really hoping my missed shifts were caused by me and not by a bad crankshaft guide. |

Anyway, thanks for starting this thread and posting about your issues. I found this to be extremely valuable. FYI, If your VIN is listed as **NT704** then you have a car which was assembled in South Africa as do I. |

No I don't, actually. I don't think this is an entitled statement. Why can't someone have the expectation that a brand will take care of them?
For example, I bought a Honeywell Lyric thermostat I had problems with. It's a $250 stat. I reached out to Honeywell to complain and they sent me a brand new 802.11ac router to see if that helped. They spent $200 to send that to me. When the new Lyric with HomeKit came out, I jokingly asked for the upgraded version... Honeywell sent me a brand new $250 stat just because I asked and because they wanted to keep me as an influential customer. It's just good customer service... I'm a Honeywell fan for life now and will tell everyone else that the Lyric > Nest. All he asked for was a better loaner. Is that wrong? He didn't ask for a huge credit or a new car. He asked for something completely rational and in-reason. If he didn't ask, he'd be in the same 228i loaner with a tinge of resent. My point is some members flamed him for something so meaningless when he's actually contributing to our community. Who cares if he wants to feel taken care of? This is how brand loyalty is formed. Can we please get back on topic now? |
