The only other automatic they use is strictly for V8 cars and ActiveHybrids.

So the F30 335i M-Sport has the 8HP45 too? I thought it had the ZF 8HP70.

Probably has something to do with the fact that you own one.

The obsession with guessing the exact hp of the B48/B58 is amusing. Whatever BMW officially states is the number, we can almost guarantee that it will be underrated like almost all BMW engines are. The N20 is rated at 240hp yet outruns the lighter Cadillac ATS turbo four rated more than 30hp higher. I would not worry about what the official number is.

Yep, this is no coincidence. All those JB4 guys are running a clear risk.

Would that also mean that no MPPK will be released for the 340 since the ZF figures are already maxed out right off the bat?

So Autobild have it wrong? 365hp!!!!

New 340i motor

Audi has the 3.0 TFSI that has taken best engine award 2014 with 333hp with a supercharger.

Mercedes 450 engine (3.0 V6 Turbo) is rumoured to be over 350hp.

Jaguar XE 3.0l Supercharged in the 335hp region.

You telling me that BMW....the 'Engine guys' are going to run less power than the rivals?

For sure it will have an uprated gearbox.

Second gen ZF8 is now available in HP50 format, and there is a HP55 in existence. Why wouldn't BMW just up the ZF model?

I agree, I think they'll have to upgrade it in the 340, regardless of PPK or not.

Autobild is a rumor news magazine.

That said, with the N54 and N55 being underrated by BMW, the B58 likely will be too, thus maybe putting out more than the advertised 320-330 HP, but 360+ is probably stretching it.

The LCI X5s came with new engines (N55) and new transmissions ZF8 (from ZF6). So this has been done before

However, count me in the camp that estimates HP/TQ at 320. The 365hp will be available at a price, not for current 335i prices. Yng... says this won't happen but I have faith. Let's see how it goes

Depends, is the B58 twin turbo or single like the N55? If it's the latter I wouldn't hold your breath on mod potential.

I've continually read for the past year that it indeed will be twin turbo, but that's speculation as nobody but BMW really knows.

I did spend some time in a m235i and due to it's weight, the N55 is quite acceptable, but the dumbed down harmon kardon audio with no eq and less output/speakers is unlivable.

That's a big concern. TBH the answer is yes (on paper) since as you pointed out the max power/torque is limitted by ZF8HP45, but you can see tuners (like Dinan) still have some power kits to increase the power/torque on these cars. Germans are conservative so basically the actual limitation is higher that what is rated on specsheet, but how much??

Given the F80/82 has an inline 6 with turbos, BMW has every incentive to limit the modding potential of the B58. I would expect the single turbo setup to continue.

I'm disappointed we wont be seeing the M340i anytime soon. I still love my E90 335i, but its almost 6 years old now, time for a change. I never was a Mercedes fan, but i have to admit, this new C450 sounds very appealing. Right now, i'm leaning towards making a switch to MB. I've always love BMW, but the days of blind loyalty has gone

The C450 looks like a great car.
If you do make the switch please post a comparison, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts of the C450 vs the E90.
