Mine will replace the steering rack. However I am really getting used to those strange vibrations (like i feel almost everything that goes through the steer - music, engine, road).
But Service Center agreed to replace the steering rack |

I just test drove the F30 of a colleague. It had the same electronic vibrations as my car (F31). I also drove a loaner new 1 series and it had it also. So I'm afraid that it's "normal" and that it's related to the new electronic power steering system.
A technical inspector of BMW said that these vibrations are coming from road and engine. But these vibrations shouldn't be there on such an expensive car! There's a big difference in terms of steering compared to the E90, which had 100% vibrations-free steering. Maybe BMW will come with a solution in the future but I don't think so, we'll have to live with it. |

Mine (F31 320D): October 2012
Colleagues car (F30 320D): January 2012 Loaner 1 series (F20 116D): not sure, it had 30.000 km on the counter so I think somewhere in 2012. --> all 3 of them have the same electronic vibrations in the steering wheel at all speeds. |

Sadly have to return to the thread !
I had my steering rack replaced. It took off the visible vibrations as long as electric ones. The drive was fine. However, now, I had a software replacement with another dealer (inserting webasto heater) and after that electric vibrations came back. Frederik, have you done something with your vibrations ? |

Assuming he means an induced oscillation from the feedback controller that regulates rack assist. Some of these EPS systems have controllers built in to identify a periodic disturbance, like nibble from improperly balanced wheel, and smooth it out at the steering wheel. It's conceivable a sensor could go, or software bug be present, such that the controller reacts to a disturbance that doesn't exist. Thus, creating a "vibration" for no reason.

Also what kind of tires do people have. I remember hearing something from a friend about Continental tires causing similar problems (vibration and inability to track straight) on Mercedes. I believe I also remember reading earlier in this thread about non-RFTs with aftermarket wheels as a solution for non DHP cars. I'm on stock Continental 17" RFT, and note a 1-2 second long pulsing type vibration (on and off every second or so) above 40 mph. Is that similar to what people are experiencing? |

Hi,
No, I haven't, the vibration are still there, especially between 100 and 140 km/h, it's still driving me nuts . My PUMA case has been closed some months ago. The technical inspector said that those vibration were road and engine feedback. They replaced the wheel bearings, did a software update of the complete car and a re-alignment of the wheels. |

I have the same vibrations issues on my 320i 8AT.
At 90mph, the entire cabin or chassis starts to vibrate, but the vibration is even worse on the drivers seat (I guess the others seats vibrate the same) and the funny thing is that vibrations disappear for a few seconds en then comes back again. My car has 27,200 miles an I remember it has the same feeling when I picked it up from the dealership. I have no idea what to do... regards, |

Unfortunately I get to jump in on this discussion. 2013 328i M-Sport, 10,5XX on the odometer. For about the past 1000 miles or so, I've been noticing that at around 35-50 mph, it feels like there is a vibration in the steering and the car from the front left(driver's side) area. I also notice (forgive my method of explaining this) a "wooh-wooh-wooh" sound coming for the front accompanying the vibration
First thought was that a wheel was off balance, so I went today and had the wheels balanced and rotated. Still running stock 18" 400m with Continental RFT's. Did not solve the problem, so I know it isn't a tire/wheel issue. I plan to contact the dealer to set up an appointment, is there anything specific I should mention or ask for about a resolution, or is this a part of the "gonna have to live with it" problem? Just describe what you are feeling. I brought mine in for steering wheel vibrations (both felt and visible if you look at the steering wheel). Dealer said it was "normal operation of the vehicle." Another dealership did a realignment, and problem persists. Seems to be "normal."

I am having the same issue with my 2014 F30. While I believe I had some bad tires, I still have this steering wheel shake between 45 to 50.
I really have nothing to compare to except my E90 - but the I feel like I can feel something out of round with these Continental SSRs on the 18's (Sport Package). Anyone else have this issue? Something that gets better? |
