That was around 14 years ago, and it's risen in value nicely. I can't think of a better one watch to own, that works just fine wherever I wear it and whatever I wear it with. It's a watch that I will never ever sell.

But I feel like it's coming up time that I treated myself to a new watch! My 45th is in around 18 months time, so that seems like a decent milestone and justification!

This last Christmas I bought Mrs Tengocity a new Tag Carrera automatic, as I felt it a bit cheeky to buy another expensive watch when she didn't have one!

So now I'm starting to mull over what watch to go for next...

I did really like the IWC I had and very tempted to go for another one, but another thought says buy something different that I've never had before.

I do fancy something that is stylistically different to a Rolex sports watch. It's also nice to have some sort of different complication too. I'm never going to collect loads of watches, so do feel like it would be good to stick with the classics... Panerai perhaps, or a Royal Oak...

Open to suggestions. Nothing crazy in price, and certainly less than a new Rolex sports watch, but minimum a Tag or Omega level and upwards.

I don't have big wrists so don't really think anything too big works, and it will definitely be an automatic, and no need for gold! I'd be happy to go used too.

So open to folks suggestions...
Tengo, I recommend a visit to Thd Wonder Room in Selfridges. It's one large concession operated by The Watch Gallery (recently bought by Bucherer).

Big selection of brands and models, coupled with very professional service.

You don't have to buy there (of course) but there's lots to look at plus knowledgeable advice.

I still love my Panerai (PAM00627) and it gets a lot of admiring comments but have learnt that sapphire-backed watches can be prone to the main spring becoming magnetised. The Apple Smart Keyboard has a strong magnet which holds it to the iPad Smart Connector and if I hold it in the same hand that I wear the watch this causes the spring to become magnetised which then causes it to run a little fast.

The Watch Gallery have been very helpful in demagnetising the spring when required.

No mocking the exclusive top row please.

12 week wait for any stainless Rolex sports watch is very quick.

I've been told that my supplier will be keeping the guarantee card for 12 months on my Tudor to prevent speculation. Seems they're going the same way as Rolex on the 'limited' pieces

New in November. Added stainless steel bracelet since. Happy.

For some reason I can't upload photo in the "normal" orientation - tried 4 versions of rotated original!

Wtf, they can't do that surely? They can't force you to keep something you've bought and not sell it on? Or have I misunderstood what they're trying to do.

What if you decide after a while that you don't like it, or, like something else more?

It's been standard practice with Rolex AD's for a while now. Aimed at stopping flippers and profiteers.

It doesn't bother me as I have no intention of moving mine on, but I can see why some folk would make a song and dance. Plus I'm sure 2nd hand dealers have found a work-around by now

People still flip on at a profit even without the warranty card, they just promise to post in a year to the new owner, it does stop you flipping it to a dealer though like Watchifnder as they won't buy a new sought after Rolex without a warranty card.

My brother just bought the new bi-metal root beer GMT off a guy who made a quick 2k profit on it, his dealer held the warranty card back for a year too, however he left the serial number on display in his Chrono 24 add and his dealer spotted it so rung him to tell him he wouldn't be getting his new ceramic Daytona now and was off the list.

So the AD process has worked in this case

Although I'd agree that once your brother parted with list price for his GMT, it's his to do with as he pleases

My mistake - read that too quickly. But the premise is the same.

You buy the watch from an AD at list and pay for it in full, then it's yours to do with what you wish

Depending on measures the UK is around the 5th largest economy so it it marries up with that quite well.
