I don't believe the root cause is the fan - i think it's a software glitch. |

It seems to be. It's weird how it's only the M-Sports. But at the same time, that isolates the issue as to the design differences.

3rd limp mode last night. (2nd was just less than 1 month ago)
Fan replaced, relay replaced, i guess now it is time for the DME. I am bring my car not because i think they can fix the problem, but i want the dealer/bmw to have a record of this problem. When i really don't want to deal with this problem anymore down the road (buy back), at least they already have the record. Last edited by oonowindoo; 10-30-2013 at 07:02 PM.. |

it sucks man because they are holding my car hostage constantly. I am without my car again for the 5th time under 5k miles and it was purchased in july. It stays in the shop for weeks at a time but i still have to pay for the damn thing. The worst part is that noone reaches out and I have to email/call 50 times until someone responds.

Just got number 6 last night...Its some BS, I have spoken to my dealer and they say its really a toss in the air...they have done fan changes, software updates, and something with coolant changes, but with no avail. Just gotta wait till bimmer does something I suppose.
It appears they dont have a grip on this as this issue has shown up on MY 14 as well. My advice...dont bring your car in for it, more frustration than its worth! |

But I think in terms of getting out of the car or lemon law lets say, I think it's def better to keep bringing it for the same problem. Good luck |

LOL yeah right...If I went in and complained they would probably give me some bs, then change a part or whatever. But the issue would remain...Hell most people have limp mode with no codes being thrown...I guess we will see whats up when I go in for my first service, whenever that is.
Like I said, Im just lucky to know, when it strikes, a quick off and on and the car is back in action. It is quite unfortunate to have any issue with a brand new car, but this is clearly a software issue IMO, and a hard one to fix at that! edit: All that stuff in my previous post was about what people are having done when complaining...My car, has never been to the dealer for limp mode...just was talking to some friends who work at bmw. They have NO clue! |

My point is, they wont be able to do anything about it, but maybe change some parts while holding my car for weeks or longer...Im good...what good is documenting if there is no codes thrown. After the first 3 limpies I had it checked, nothing. If I wanted out of this car, all I would have to do is bring it back, I have a great relationship with my dealer, and they have been honest with me, they have no idea what going on with these 3's...not gonna lie though when than m235 comes out I may be tempted to give it a whirl.

They may not know what's going on, but the dealership has it documented that my car is having this issue. The next time it happens, I'm going to bring it in, and when it happens the 3rd time I'm starting the process of getting myself a new car.
My dealership did decide to refund me 2 months worth of car payments since the car just sat up there while I was waiting for the fan to arrive from Germany. |

Have had my car for only a week now...has 6k miles and noticed on the way home from work that it had trouble revving at higher rpms and that it sounded like the engine was overheating. Looked at the symptoms and compared it with this thread and it indeed was a case of limp mode. Don't know if I should take it into the dealer; really don't want to considering I just took it in for a benign CEL and not working USB port...

Second limp mode on my 2014. Caught it on video. Taking it in soon when a trim piece comes in that needs to be replaced. Convinced it's software but it's hard to prove that.
In both cases, I had driven to work (~50 mins) in comfort, then switched to sport on a cool morning. Shortly after switching to sport mode limp mode kicked in |
