Folks, this is a known issue in the F3x cars and there is nothing that can be done about it. The second day I drove my 2014 335i M Sport after taking delivery in December of 2013, I noticed the vibration between 40-60 mph. Letting go of the steering wheel and staring at it at those speeds, you'll see it shake/vibrate. The vibration is non-existent in any other speed outside the aforementioned range. The vibration is minimal and I figured BMW will address it during my next oil service..so I thought.
I am very in tuned with my car and the vibration, despite being minimal, drove me nuts. I made such a fuss about it that BMW NA sent an engineer down to the dealership to test drive my car at which point I was told the car was designed to drive that way. I was flabbergasted and thought the engineer was full of it. The engineer asked me if I had ever owned a BMW. I told him my former car for almost 8yrs was an E39 M5 and my wife owned a 328 E92 for several years which I drove often and neither of them exibited a vibration at any speed or such awful numbness or the absence of a tactile feel of the road. He looked at me and couldn't utter a word. I demanded to test drive every new F30 335i M-sport and non-msport the dealer had on the lot, and to my dismay, they all drove the same including the new 335i Grand Coupe. They all had the same vibration my car has to this day between the speeds of 40 and 60 mph. I asked to test drive a new 535i M-Sport and as one would guess, the vibration was non-existent at any speed. The steering was as smooth as butter. The 5 series, as I was informed has a different steering system. It's hydraulic whereas the one on our cars is electric. I have learned to live with my car and the vibration. I have got used to it, and with my mods, I hardly stay in the aforementioned speed range . So that fixes that. I will still state that I am disappointed with BMW for implementing the electric steering wheel in the F3x line with this flaw and that they make improvements soon or they will lose customers to the competition. I personally made BWMNA aware of how I felt about their 'electric steering system' I am praying that this gets resolves soon via software, but I am not holding my breath.

I thought my 2014 BMW 328i Luxury line was having the famous steering wheel shimmy/vibration as well. Ended up being that my tires were out of balance. It took them about 3 times to get it right, but now been driving it for a few days and the car drives VERY smooth with no hint of vibration or shake.

Just got my 328 the other day, i have the shake. Had it with the first 328 i had in 2012, dealer bought me out of it and put me in a 335i.
Not sure what im going to do yet. If it gets worse, i will have them buy it back but i would like to wait till the B48 is out.

I am pretty sure the LCI model with the 5 bolts attaching the front struts vs 3 will probably add more rigidity and mask the shimmy.
I will be so pissed if I have to wait another 2.5 years until my lease is over and drive daily with that shimmy. |

For the people that have had their cars changed out with new ones....can I get some more information about that? I have a 428GC
My car has been in service for about 2 weeks straight. They have done several balances, road force balance and they put new wheels and changed out the P7 for continental tires. Still no fix. They are awaiting bmw engineering for guidance. |

Despite the fact that I don't have the problem (is it due to my car being a 2014 320i?) I'm pissed off.
Pissed off in solidarity. Hope someone has a fix. |

So I had it rebalanced again 2 days ago. Finally smooth as silk now. Now vibrations. Very happy now.
Guess the balance has to be perfect on these cars if not it's very noticeable.

Update to my issue: So they measured the bearing tolerance on the right front hub, it was out of spec. They replaced the bearing and hub. Took the car back from them and stated it was fixed and good to go. The next day I noticed the shake was not gone. It is not as bad as it was, but now it shakes between the speeds of 49-55.
I called back and they stated that I needed to bring it in because a BMW field engineer was in the area and would be looking at it today. So, I am eager to hear what they have to say. Btw, today makes 15 days total in service for this issue. |

My car is built 09/2013 and I also experience these vibrations. Really annoying. An engineer will come to check but I'm afraid they cannot solve the problem. BMW quality is decreasing exponentially to my opinion. It's my 6th BMW but I'm getting more and more disappointed ...

I did a test drive with the service tech last month and he said the slight vibration is normal. I remember my E90 had a slight vibration when it went over bumps/road imperfections.

Has anyone seen this happen on MY2015 cars? It seems like they're mostly happening to those in MY2014 and before, or maybe that's just bias on my end based on reading this thread...

I also have this issue on my 335D. The car was built in september 2013. Vibration starts at 50 km/h and becomes worse at higher speeds, especially at highway speed (120-130 km/u). Also, when you want to drive rearwards, when you start driving, a vibration is feelable in the steering wheel. This is really annoying! At stationary rpm, I frequently hear a weird sound which I cannot describe. Is it related to the steering problem, I don't know. The dealer told me that the vibration is normal because it's a high power engine. He let me feel the vibration in a M5 and it was also present. However, I do not believe this crap.

Mine is a 2015 328I with less than 600 miles on the OD. I have had the car for almost 3 weeks and the vibration is horrible from 50 to 80 MPH. Its been in service twice now and has had all tires rebalanced and the tires air taken out and re inflated. Shaking is still there and I am going back to the dealer tomorrow to speak with the AGM and the GM about getting into a different car. This is my first BMW and the frustration from this has ruined my buying experience.

I have not felt this vibration in my 2015. Will give it a closer look the next time I drive it but given the previous posters, I would have noticed it right away.

Mine is a 320i Sport 6/2015 build with 5 bolt top front strut mounts.
Same as LCI and all calendar year 2015 F30 builds. Tires are Bridgestone S001. Have the 40-60mph wobble since day one (only ~700miles now). Dealer rebalance front tires and remounted RF tire, still vibrates @45 mph, mostly on smooth roads. They also performed an alignment due to slight pull to the right - fixed. The 8/2014 build 328i non sport loaner they gave me had exactly the same wobble! Can't believe this issue was not addressed since the F30 came out in 2012. 2012 328i Sport Line with a 06/12 build date.
The problem has been there since day one. I didn't notice the vibration/shimmy until I read this post. Proceeded to take the car to the dealer where they found they could not balance one wheel/tire so they ordered a new tire and for the most part the vibration/shimmy was minimal but was always present at 46-52 mph. Today is my 3 year anniversary from when I did PCD. I brought it to the dealer last week for the last warranty service appointment as I have 48,xxx miles on the clock. As a last ditch effort to see if they had any software fixes or new known ways to fix, I listed it as a problem I wanted them to address. They did a full road force balance for no charge and claimed they could not feel the vibration/shimmy. When I drove home, there shimmy was present but minimal. I have learned to live with this minor issue as I love all other aspects of my car. 45 pages of post replies and still no answers.

Mine is a 4/2014 base model build and the shimmy is still there with 11k miles. It will disappear the instant you go below 40MPH. The shimmy is there up to about 53MPH. I've learned to accept it as it's just a minor annoyance but it's hard to believe this exists in a 46k car.
