Hi Shawn,

Thanks for the link and all the instructions you have provide us. I have to admit, it was a tough learning curve as I'm not really an IT savvy guy. But after I push thru it, it was indeed a very fun process to do the code on the car myself. I'm able to code the auto start-stop, dvd in motion, sports meter etc. Thanks again for guidance you showed us thru this forum.

On the other hand, I would like to reflash / convert my iDrive from Japan version to either SEA or European version so that I can install the Navi Map for SEA version. How can this be done?

Appreciate your guidance on this. TQ

There is no guide for this, and it is not easy task to convert Japan Spec Head Unit to Europe Spec. You will need to flash Head Unit with proper FA and re-image Hard Drive using image from Euro Spec Head Unit, then if all is working well, install new SEA Map.

It definitely sounds hard if it's coming from the legend Shawn. So where should I start if i decided to do it? or can you help me do it? (with a fee, of coz)

I would contact EuroSurgeon:

http://www.eurosurgeon.co.nz/

They specialize in Japanese Head Unit conversions.

Question

Shawn looking for your help... was pointed your way by kevin.

reposting my question below... any help is appreciated.

Quote:
Long time lurker and finally got the courage to do some coding on my vehicle. I am not new to computer coding but I am an infant to BMW coding. Suffice, I need help.

I know about the E-sys and the PDZdata (already have the cable) but have questions:

1. Where can I find the latest versions and is the latest version the best option? From experience, usually the latest one is not the best outright.

2. Should the versions match the software version in the car?

3. Does the forum have a F32 coding list summary, just like the one I found for F30 from Frogman, that lists all the possible options that could be coded?

4. When coding, should the engine be running or (I would think) logically just be turned on.

Forgive me for such noob questions; just hoping the forum members have advice and guidance for a newbie.

Thank you in advance for all the help.

  1. Always Use Latest. PM sent.
  2. First, use PSdZData version >= last version of ISTA/P used to Program the car. Second, use E-Sys version compatible with PSdZData version being used. If you always use the latest of each, then you will always be fine.
  3. I have not seen an F32 Coding list. I would just use F30 one. Coding is actually ECU specific not chassis specific, and F32 and F30 have same ECU architecture.
  4. Per the "E-Sys - Installation Instructions":
"*NOTE: A continuous power source of at least 12.6 Volts is needed. Failure to maintain proper voltage can lead to corruption of ECU Data. As such, ideally the car is connected to an external charger. In lieu of using an external charger, the car can instead be coded with the engine running in order to maintain proper voltage, which is acceptable for coding all ECU's EXCEPT the DME (Digital Motor Electronics) ECU or DDE (Digital Diesel Electronics) ECU. The DME/DDE are typically not coded anyway, so this ECU limitation is generally not an issue."

As for the specific FDL Codes needed to code the things you are interested in, for F36 you can use the F30 Cheat Sheet.
