You are nuts. There current line up will be better than half the teams in the league. Will they win a championship, no way. They may not even go deep in the playoffs. The team is far from a disaster.

Lakers lost all the key players. Bynum, Odom, Artest, Clark, Howard and Phil Jackson. The current roster and coaching staff is just a disaster. They might as well start rebuilding now and do what Celtics did. |

Lakers hire former player Mark Madsen as coach EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- It didn't take long for the Los Angeles Lakers to promote Mark Madsen. The former Stanford player who was part of the Lakers' NBA champion teams in 2001 and '02 was hired as the team's player development coach, along with Larry Lewis. In May, Madsen was hired to coach the Los Angeles D-Fenders this season. Instead, he will help Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni, who says Madsen ''has endless energy and is a workaholic.'' Madsen played nine seasons in the NBA and spent the last two years as a Stanford assistant Lewis spent last season as an assistant with the D-Fenders and before that was head of player development for the team.

No way the Lakers make the playoffs.
Kobe won't be back until Christmas. Nash is done. Pau is getting old. Artest is gone. Kobe says he wants to retire as a Laker, but with his age and injury, it is likely he will never be the same. He was already due to start declining any season now and the Achilles injury just speeds up that process. If Kobe was a great leader, then it might make sense to keep him on the roster and try to surround him with younger talent, but the thing is...HE SCARES EVERYONE AWAY. I think Dwight Howard is a gigantic drama queen, but it was incredibly stupid for the Lakers to keep Kobe and D-Antoni and lose D. Howard. The Lakers would be smart to trade Kobe while he still has value. Then they can start targeting new stars to replace him.

I wouldn't want to rush Kobe back... not good to rush a senior back from injury. It almost never ends well...

The only thing I may want to revise is my timeline for Kobe's return. I bet 100 units of e90 post credibility that the Lakers do not make the playoffs. Do you disagree with me on this? If so, let's make a bet.

I'm a dedicated Lakers fan, but I have to agree that the team looks in disarray at the moment. I pray I'll be proven wrong, but this year doesn't seem promising. Counterpoint, last year looked promising, but was terrible so I guess anything can happen.

"The fourth-leading scorer in NBA history is running on a special treadmill and doing some court drills, but still isn't sprinting or playing basketball. Bryant knows he might not be ready for opening night Oct. 29, but he's not willing to concede anything in his latest comeback." "Nobody carries a bigger chip than Bryant, who zealously draws fuel from doubters. He's running with 75 percent of his body weight on the treadmill, and he has done ladder drills on the court to improve his agility, but he grudgingly acknowledges his return isn't imminent." LOL. He's running with just 75% of his body weight on the treadmill and has not yet even started sprinting or playing basketball. Even if he is ready by the season opener, he won't be in playing shape or old form until Thanksgiving or Christmas. Thanks for playing.

One of the greatest Lakers of all time tells it like it is. ...but I have no idea what I'm talking about. P.S. Steve Nash is 40 years old. His defense was bad when he was 32. Now, it's going to be non existent. I'm a HUGE Nash fan, but face it...he should have retired a year ago.

I know it's only the first game of the season, but it was enormously enjoyable to see the Lakers mop the floor with the "New Kings of LA Basketball" Clippers... Even more so since it was the reserves who dropped 41 points on the Clips in the fourth quarter.
Hilarious.

I'm a Clippers fans, and I haven't disappeared.
I'm also a Lakeshow fan. I hope both of them go deep into the playoffs. Western Finals hopefully.

It was fun watching the reserves play the whole 4th quarter. With dwight and kobe, that's something that wouldn't happen last year...even when they questioned dantoni about it during a comeback.
Nash might not be 100% or just the good part of 40, but he needs to shoot more. They didn't seem to swing the ball to nash much if they were covered or for open looks. It'll be interesting to see who finishes the game down the line. It'll change for sure, but I see a typical lineup of gasol, nash, farmar, nick young/wesley johnson (depending on matchups) and I guess kaman. The odd guy out is meeks on some nights maybe (I really dread when he takes a shot off the dribble). It's great to go 11 deep, but when there's limited time with lots of player fighting for contracts next year there's bound to be a little bickering...tight knit group or not. Oh and not a huge clipper fan, but nice to see deandre jordan playing down the stretch. I just watched the game in spurts, but I don't remember him posting up much. Griffin's post moves are still limited And good bye to all the laker bandwagoners....and many of the haters |

I don't know if they disappeared, but it was priceless, particularly since the LA Times had a pull-out section fawning all over the Clippers as if they had conquered the world...

GSW just have a bunch of guys that can put the ball through the hoop. I love how they play, despite my college team enduring some bitter losses to both Thomson and Curry during their collegiate years.
I will be pulling for the Lakers this year, as they've got two of my boys on the bench, Big Rob and Elias Harris. |

I'm as hardcore a Warriors fan as they get (sensibly), but I don't follow the ideology of blind hatred for a rival team. I like the Lakers...great organization. It's sad to see what has happened to them.
Still, Oracle was rockin last night. Hands down the best arena/crowd in sports. |
