I understand what you are saying Shawn, but on my F30, reading ECU returned bkombi even with new cluster mounted. I don't understand why, but after deleting bkombi from SVT and reading ECU after that, reading returned corect kombi.

I think this is a coincidence. caused by other factor. Since Read ECU ignores existing SVT, it defies logic that any modification to current SVT would be needed.

Not sure it matters or not, but is 6WA in your FA?

Hi larry, i'm assuming you tried this.
First read SVT delete bkombi from it and write it back. let the car sleep for a bit and try reading ecu's. Should work. if bkombi showed up again. meaning it never deleted from svt or you didn't write it back to the car. Thx |

Shawn, read ECU ignores the ecu's on svt stored on the car. only reads new once from my experience. I have always had to delete the ecu from svt to read the new or replaced one. i think it keeps track of the ecu ID's on vcm and if it's already on vcm completely ignores it.
since kombi and bkombi uses the same ecu id, i think it's ignoring for him. at least its the case for f30. not sure about other body types. |

After reading svt from vcm, edit it, delete bkombi and write new svt to vcm, after that read ecu and kombi will show. I never write svt to vcm again after kombi was found, and now every time I use read ecu and kombi shows, even with my modified FA for coding F10 6WA on my F30.
Next project will be F10 6WB . |

So, do you confirm that no need to swap FEM when 6WA retrofit in F30 ?
In your cases (larry_bml / ttxuky / Megalo84 / Coolala / everywill / maybe 1lyfe too ? ), IC was new ? if not, have you reset mileage and write 'FF' in VIN on eeprom ? I just ordered R270 with SOP8 test Clip, and a used IC High for my F30 |

No need to swap the FEM, F30/F20 FEM modules dont have most bus. NBT/Entry will be the Most master.
When we did 1lyfe's 6WA, we desorted the IC and flashed it with virgin bin. Then sorted it back to the motherboard. You will need to flash the Kombi with your VIN/FA once installed. When I retrofitted my 6WA, i was able to pick one up never married to any car. So all I needed to do was flash it with my VIN/FA. All was good. Quote:

Sounds good,
I ll keep you informed when I will receive all parts. About the eeprom inside IC 6WA and 6WB, do you think it's the same ? I expect to use R270 to flash the eeprom. As I know it's a limited processor capability, I hope it will be able to Write on 6WB ship. I will do the same job on a friend F07 |

For 6WA on F30 -
An idea about optical fiber ref. to wire "retrofitted" NBT HU and IC extended ? Or if someone tried an aftermarket OF, can share experience pls. |

Some news:
So I started with the Black panel IC. R270 and SOP8 clip test just received. I had to make some soldering points to assemble both units. Then, I began by erasing odometer - well competed (see pictures) after that, bytes 2E0x 8 to F modified to FF value - .BIN written By against, for the others VIN in the hexa file (0x7F to 0x8F or 59 to 5A ) I have only FF value on these bytes.. 2 questions: is there possibility to convert BIN file to text file to search if there are others VIN to modify ? how to get VIN from 8 Bytes read in 2E0 line ? |

You must make it yourself:
http://www.bmwclub.ru/index.php?thre...770471/page-14 Then, we can not cut and assemble optical fiber as you do for copper cable.. at the BMW store, the crimp tool for OF connectors costs about $800 - you must develop the skill to make it: No available OF cable in BMW store |

With a little hand job , yes it will work. You will need to remove fiber optic from NBT, remove one father soket from that Y, insert NBT removed fiber into that soket, and insert it into mother soket of Y. The other father soket you will have to insert it into cluster. You will have to be sure that OUT of an ECU goes to IN to other ECU: cluster out goes to nbt in OR nbt out goes to cluster in. You will have to play a little with optical wires, but it can be done.
