Thanks buddy! Nothing ground breaking in terms of mods but I always enjoy reading people's progress journals myself

As always bud, quality attention to detail.
I kept debating the digi dash, it looks lovely but after seeing my Dads in his 440 I still love analogue.

Cheers mate. Yeah I know what you mean, I do like an analogue dial still and that's why I never spec'd it new. It was more to freshen up the cabin a bit and keep it feeling current. I keep the analogue dial look in all settings, not fussed on the sport dials

Long time reader, first time poster here... in fact just joined today to chip on this thread. I also have an F31 and love it, stumbled across this thread while googling for tyre options. Lovely car mate, that front lip spoiler was it fitted at the time of purchase or aftermarket? Quite hard to find things like that in NZ

Haven't updated this thread for a while, mainly due to the trouble free motoring and not doing anything else to the car. Apart from a limited slip diff I'm happy with how the car is, I also picked up an e46 m3 early last year so a lot of my attention has been tidying that up recently.
In January the 4 year PCP was up on the car, there was nothing else on the market for similar money that I was really tempted by. Everything was ridiculously expensive, had incredibly long lead times and just didn't do it for me enough to tie myself in for another 3-4 years so I made the decision to purchase the car at the end. It was a no brainer really as at the time the prices for 340i tourings were almost double what the final payment was. I'm still really happy with the car, its been reliable, it does everything I need and I'm not bored of the looks either so I'm happy to keep it for a while yet. While it was in for it's MOT I had an interim oil change done rather than wait for the next due service in a years time. If I'm to keep it hold of it then I want to keep it in good health and an annual 12k oil change can only help. I was surprised to see how clean the oil still was actually when it was drained. Brake pads were running low and I had a full F80 set up in the garage that I was fitting to the e46. Because the discs didn't look too great, corrosion setting in around the outer edge, I knew they would be due soon so rather than waste a new set of pads I fitted the part worn ones out of the F80 calipers. I much preferred the feel of the m3 pads, straight away you could feel they had more initial bite over the m sport ones. So I ordered up a new set of M3 pads front and rear and discs all round, went with the M Performance discs, they were actually cheaper than the regular blank ones so I thought I'd give them a try, for looks more than anything. The front discs looked pretty bad on the car but when I got them off the backs were completely shot. You can see where they've put a chamfer on those brand new second hand pads that I fitted. Glad I never put new ones on at the time. Rears looked fine until I got them off, they were pretty much the same on the back off the discs, bad corrosion and would have just chewed up a new set of pads as well. Everything cleaned up and replaced and the car is stopping smoothly once again, feels great, must have slowly got used to the worn discs over time. Something so satisfying about fitting new discs and pads don't you think That's them good for another 4 years/50k hopefully! New tyres all round next. They're all wearing pretty evenly and will be due before the autumn i reckon.

Love the progress, wish we got the B58 here in the States, real shame.

Glad you left the biplane wing off… I agree they do not look right.
Too much of a garish rally hatchback look.

Yeah I agree. Each to their own but theyre not for me. Sometimes less is more, I would have preferred a complete replacement panel for the rear spoiler with a subtle flick, I think that would have looked more classy. I've considered a few aftermarket options but really want to keep this close to oem

Forgive my slightly ignorant question - but the discs are the same diameter as the original, smooth, ones and are fitted with the original callipers? They do look loads better, and mine are due for replacement soon. I'm liking the look you have here 😃 Would you have the part numbers to hand, perhaps? Many thanks. Keep sharing too - it's a cracking thread (and you have a photographers eye) |

There will be other pads that people recommend but since I'd previously tried them and liked how they felt compared to the standard ones I decided to stick with them. Price isn't bad either for genuine parts and more than adequate for my use. Just to add though the slotted discs do give off a whirring noise when driving along with the window down. Doesn't really bother me but I know some don't like it.

Just go for the blank oem discs then, the slotted ones don't add any real benefit other than looks. Pads will work just as well on the standard discs

Excellent, thanks mate. Was looking at aftermarket brand upgrades (EBC etc) for pads but varying levels of opinion on them re. day-to-day and cold performance, so I'm thinking F80 pads would be better

Not really a car update but I went full anorak and got a couple of personalised ring binders made up for both cars history records. Grey and black to match the F31 & navy to match the Carbon black (Navy) e46.

AWESOME. I have one but yours are much cooler. I also have a spreadsheet on my computer with dates, mileage, costs, if it's maintenance or a mod, etc. that's numbered to reference the hard copies in the binder.
