First I put a lever pushing the turbo to inter-cooler rubber pipe in towards the inter cooler, then put my phone/camera down in there and took a couple of pics. Remember that I have a 428i and that has a bunch more room. All this was done from the top, without pulling off the plastic bottom tray.

bolts for F30 steering rack motor

Hi,

I recently replaced the whole steering rack and got some pictures that may be useful. Upon removing the electric motor, I noticed threading for more than 3 bolts, so I took pictures pointing at the correct threads. I can't remember if these were T40 or 45...anyone find where to get replacement bolts?

Had the exact same issue ~6 month ago on my 2012 F30. Found broken bolt under the car.

Dealer fixed it for free. Was told that constant cleaning of under the car is necessary during winter time.

Cleaning under the car won't stop the bolts from corroding. There's a design defect, that's why BMW issued the service bulletin. I hope your dealer replaced all three bolts.

I recently got my bolts replaced under this recall. But my steering lately is getting tougher. Is possible my steering rack failed? If so will this be cover under the recall?

Hi guys. I've got some issue with my power steering. No matter if the engine off or on. The power steering itself is working good, not heavier at all. Can someone help me? Thank you in advance

I couldn't find any snapped bolts on the ground, but the symptom sounds exactly like mine, it just broke today.

It first started as a clicking noise when turning lock to lock, it became a full on rubbing noise today and it finally became a motor growl just as I was about to pull into my parking spot.

Not sure if I can even get the car back out of the spot to the mechanic/dealer. Anyone know if it's safe to drive or should I just call a truck? It's going to be difficult to get a truck into my underground spot...

A complete steering failure while driving would be a much larger problem than what you have right now.

Ehh... I ended up driving back and forth to my indie and now left the car at the dealer. The moment the shop scanned my car, that steering bolt bulletin came right up.

EDIT: Dealer fixed it, gave me a refurbished steering rack plus the bolt rework and charged to BMW Canada. But they wiped out all my coding in the process, lol.

I had my steering rack rebuilt. Basically just replacing the steering rack with one from a donor part. The rest: EPS motor, pinion shaft, etc were not replaced. Now the power steering works but with lots of errors (IDM, EPS, EDC, etc). Tried to do an EPS start up procedure but didn't seem to work.

Do you remember if you needed to do any programming after rack replacement?

The wear pattern on the gear looks like its been happening for a while. The teeth are worn to a point. Most likely the gear it meshes up with will look the same way.

This is what I found on mine. Looks like someone stripped the threads and put a wield on it.

Fast forward today, another 10k kms in, it's making noise again. Time to hit the dealer again I suppose, I hope they actually escalate this to BMW now that it's the second time with that less mileage.
