I just placed an order for the XHP 8Zf license and the 8Zf map pack, but for some reason when the purchase went through, somehow I ended up with the 6sp version and the 8Zf map pack for my M240. Has this happened to anyone else?
I didn’t attempt to redeem the codes I got, and I already wrote an email to RBT Tuning so I’m now waiting for their reply. Last edited by Devil doc; 07-20-2020 at 06:26 AM.. |

Purchased the Flash Licence and Map packs today.
Installed much quicker than it says, took like 2 minutes, I was expecting at least 10. Went straight for the Stage 3. Had to drive across the South Downs to visit family today so managed to get some miles in as well, barely any noticable difference in Comfort, more than ok for daily driving. On the way back I had a play in Sport/Sport+ and the shifter in S/M. Man is that thing worth it. It is like a whole new gearbox. The shifts in Sport/S are nice and aggressive but without being too violent, responds great to throttle so if you've got it buried then it hangs onto the revs longer and shifts aggressively, but if you've got only half throttle say, even in Sport/S, then it is smoother. It almost feels like the car has been remapped, because it just seems to pull so much better in Sport/S up through the gears. Can't wait to actually get it remapped as well. One thing I did notice though is it didn't sit in 8th at all in Sport or S modes. Only in Comfort/D or in Manual mode. TBF I'm hardly ever cruising in Sport or S anyway, I can just pull the paddle to put it into 8th if I wanted.

One of the main reasons I bought this was to keep from dropping to 1st gear when almost coming to a stop. I only care about this when in manual mode and this is the only condition it doesn't stay in second. Kinda bummed. Also, manual mode In comfort shifts slower than my wife the first time I taught her to drive stick. I unfortunately don't think it was worth the $350.

I think the shift-speed is adapted based on the driving style and throttle, so driving hard it's quite fast, but round town or relaxed driving it's slower and more comfortable.

I went with stage 3. The WOT shifts are better, but maybe I was expecting too much. It doesn't make sense for comfort manual mode to take 2 full seconds to shift. Hopefully it will get better after a few more days.

Hmm mine is a lot quicker than 2 seconds shifting gears. Does not sound like that's right....
Is that after cold start or also after 10-15 km with warm oil?

Warm or cold, it only happens in comfort. Sport and sport+ are fine. There are rare occasions ill be in comfort and switch to manual to pass someone. Now I have to make sure I put it in Sport as well.

It says to do driving in D rather than S/M for a while to let the transmission adapt. Maybe see what it's like after 50-100 miles. If there's no improvement then maybe look at custom settings.

I actually flashed stage 2 about 2 weeks ago and driving normally it shifts very similar to stock but when I’m on throttle any more than half way it shifts very fast in comfort mode
Sport mode but shifter normal shifts are nice and fast no more stumbles from the 1-2 shift full throttle either I’m also on stage 1 BM3 |

Initial thoughts are that you can definitively feel the difference and it is very noticeable. In normal comfort mode with transmission in D, the gear change is a little quicker. The biggest difference the car seems to lurk forward when up shifting. In the past, normally there is a split sec pause before it changes gears but now it feels like the transmission jumps straight into the gear you selected and u get a shove in the back when it happens when upshifting. Under moderate acceleration, the 1st thing I notice is there DSG farts are less noticeable. It seems the gear change happens so quickly so there is no time for little drama that usually awaits us so I kinda miss that. Other than that, the gear changes in manual mode sport + are indeed very fast. When cruising at high speed, gear change are not only fast but also very smooth IMO. Maybe it behaves differently under WOT but peak hour traffic at motorway didn't give me much chance to push the car. Another thing I notice was car can switch gear at lower gears quicker in manual mode. In the past when doing 60kph, factory gear box setting will not allow change to 7th gear. Now it will change to 7th gear and sits at 1000rpm. Perhaps that may help save fuel but lugging the engine may not be such as good idea long term. Need to check again if it does that too in normal D mode. Totally agree with the statement from BBris89 that the car felt like it has been remap. A lot of attention has been put on ECU remaps to increase power but most don't realize that transmission is a big part of how the car behave. Car feels much more alive as gear change are amazingly rapid and I recon I have def shave a few milliseconds off acceleration and in particular in gear acceleration. I was going to do the MHD/Bootmod tune in coming days but after driving yesterday, I actually don't feel the need for a remap straight away so I’m gonna hold off on doing ECU for a few weeks.

Hum... Definitely notice less exhaust pop on gear change. I have tried many time but don't seem to be able to get the up-shift burp to happen.
I tried Map 2 and still seem to struggle to get the up-shift burp. Any feedback appreciated.

After having xHP on my 330i E90 and 328i F30 i couldn't wait to get it on my 340iX, but i've gotta say i'm somewhat disappointed and have mixed feelings with Stage 3.
There's like 1.5 seconds of lag when i shift manually in comfort mode, and still like 500ms of delay in sport. Only Sport+ is actually improved somewhat, but i don't really want to have to drive in Sport+ all day to get somewhat decent paddle response? It's really weird, i didn't expect Sport to be so slow. Side to side, taking my N20 328i with the BM3 TCU tune for a spin i can step on the gas, upshift at high RPM and be rewarded with the upshift "brap" instantaneously. Since i got used to the timing of letting off the gas immediately after upshifting and ripping a fart, getting into my 340iX i constantly miss the moment because i have to time the paddle click a second before i get around redline. In sport. I dunno, i guess i'd be happy with Sport having the Sport+ paddle response, i miss my DCT-like shifts.

I've been on the edge of doing this for so long but with all the negativity around the slow comfort mode shifts and the loss of the "farts" make me very cautious. I love the farts and dont really want to suffer in comfort with laggy shifts.
Has anyone mentioned this to XHP? |

It does not, you have to manually select that. Which I have now done. It means that I can now drive in Sport/S pretty much all the time without sacrificing fuel economy on the dual carriageways or motorways when I stick the cruise control on. Given that my 30 mile commute involves A LOT of roundabouts with dual carriageway stretches between them, it's great for "making progress" by having the ability to leave in Sport/S and still get 8th gear. Maybe different cars respond slightly differently, but Comfort is perfect imo right now with the Stage 3 tune. Perhaps it just takes a while (50-200 miles) to properly settle and adapt to driving style after the changes. It's far better than it used to be though, sometimes before installing xHP, when accelerating up to 30/40/50 quite hard then lifting off coasting or 10% throttle, it'd just hold the gear (usually 2nd or 3rd) at 3500-4000 rpm randomly making an unnecessary amount of noise and engine braking, before changing up 2 gears to settle at a sensible rpm in 5th. Now, it doesn't ever do that.
