I'm sorry, I have no idea if this will work for the E series as well. The stuff I have been using so far only covered the F series.. for the E series I believe there is different software. Quote:
As far as the seatbelt chime, if it is the same (or similar) on the E series as it is on the F series, then you should not have to worry about that. All safety features like the airbag, abs, dsc, etc etc, are located in different functions. I could technically turn the airbag off but it would be a complete different function. The way it works for the F series (and probably the E as well) is that every option is a function by itself

I actually did Michael's F30 tonight, gave him several options like the ASS remember it's last setting now, I turned off his side markers, did the TPMS, gave him the sport displays (oddly enough he didn't have these?), mirror folding and some more =)

As for software, that's a bit of a problem. I believe the E-series are coded with a different kind of software, the e-sys software that I am using seems to be capable of only coding the F-series. I believe there is a different software for the E-series but I am unsure which one that is. Once you have the right software, and a working cable, then I'm positive you will be able to do what you want through coding.

What are the chances BMW will take note of this and have dealership to check for these changes and void warranty? Or better yet place some kind of a lock\security in software update so these cannot be altered anymore?

Yeah, this should be possible to do for all F series. There might be slight differences in the module names but in general it should be the same. Isn't that the same sound on the F30? Or am I going nuts? lol xD

The things being done with this cable and software are simply selecting items that are available to be selected. It's not like anything is actually being "modified". The code is already written, and all one is doing is selecting "yes" or "no", is simplest terms. There isn't any modification of code here. As Svache has said a couple times, it's not really "coding" that's going on here, just finding certain areas that contain already coded options, and then turning things on or off. Very cool. I don't think this has any warranty void concerns. |

Your research and work on this are great, and obviously will be very helpful to a lot of us.
There are 2 major things I'd like changed. 1- ASS off by default. Or, remember last setting. 2- Remember last "drive mode" setting, such as 'normal' 'sport', etc..., or "sport" default. I'm curious if anyone has had any success with asking their dealer to change a few items before picking up their new car? I'm going to ask my CA if one of the tech's can at least change the 2 things I'm wondering about. It would be great to know where those parameters reside so that I can tell the tech, in case they will do it for me. Once you've got it figured out, can you post relevant "coding" info that I could give to the tech? TIA! |
