With VWs, Saabs, all the previous turbo cars I added a downpipe to, the downpipe made decent power, but when I added software that put the downpipe to good use, things got much more interesting.

Like...

Downpipe no software-10whp
software no downpipe-30whp
software+downpipe-50whp

The software exploits the downpipe basically and the two together are often better than the sum of their parts.

But after tune, TBE and intercooler, things get more expensive as the low hanging fruit is out of the way lol.
Wow!

So I'm making quite some bit of power here with the exhaust and dp...now if I throw in a tune like the MPPK, I'll be sitting very pretty...

Throw in an intercooler and things get rougher...

Thanks for the explanation James!

No.. VO is an individual colour. That may change in the future, but it is what it is now.

Keep in mind, the intercooler is less a POWER mod and more a CONSISTENCY mod.

The way your car feels on a first WOT pull in cold weather, vs a few pulls when it's hot and gets heatsoaked, that degradation...that is what the intercooler hopefully counteracts. It's not so much adding much power if any, but keeping the power you have and not letting it just turn into hot intake charges.

Akrapovic claims 7 hp gain with their evolution exhaust. I'm guessing you can get a pony or two more out of a system that doesn't have to be approved for road use by BMW.

Either way, 1hp more or less is not something that will make any difference other than on the internet...

I don't even know what you are going on about at this point.

It's a very simple statement. Has BMW(not me), at any time made any statements as to a specific power increase with the MPE?

it's a yes or no.
This question has been answered I think at this point it's safe to say there is nothing else that needs to be elaborated any further, otherwise we will be beating a dead horse.

On to the next one

Oh, makes sense.

Thanks for the clarification...any particular brands for the intercooler you'd suggest for the F30? 335i?

It might be a bit early, but I have never seen a bad word mentioned of Forge intercoolers. I have had a few of them on a variety of cars and they are quality and usually offer a no muss fitment. I am running a Forge BPV on the wife's Saab(the kind that bolt directly to the turbo instead of the easy to install ones that connect to a vacuum line) and again, quality piece, installed/fit as it should.

On both sides of the pond the traditional power kit adds 20hp, if my math is right that gets us to 326 to the east and 320 to the west.

The power kit being offered here adds 26hp, it's right there in the pictures right after the introductory paragraph.

To the east 306+26 = 332, to the west 326.

In addition the introductory paragraph even states that the power kit and MPE combine to make 326hp. I think Armageddons 2 cents was indeed worth every penny.

On a side note it just occurred to me that using the 306/295 rating in Europe and adding MPE and PPK brings you to the S4 specs about 333/325
Gentlemen,

DIN versus SAE
HP(DIN) = 0.9861 HP(SAE)

Aproximately 306 DIN HP equals 300 SAE HP.

That's all.

No one is arguing about the different ratings (306 vs 300). Its the 20 vs 26 that myself and my friend to the east of the pond were trying to decipher.

It's just a misprint with Euro numbers... trust me on this one. I have it on good authority

I've used Forge BOV's in the past and never had an issue.

For intercoolers, I've heard Forge is reputable. I'm also waiting on either Dinan or ExtremeTurboSystem (ETS) to make one, I ran an ETS in my Evo 8 and it was pretty awesome.

I am on the fence between this in laguna seca and 2013 c63 in black. Practically same price. 335 will be fully loaded and MB will be close to a "stripper" if you can say that.
Tough choice... Comments?

Nice info Shiva!

Once u get an intercooler installed, do u see/feel an immediate difference?

DD.. The answer is simple, the choice is not
I test drove c63 and msport 335 (without the m performance goodies).
Btw, I don't think c63 will be that great on the track because of the weight.
The steering is much better compared to f30. I am not even comparing the power and sound.
On the down side Merc looks dated and will be replaced next year. But the deal is pretty good.

Did you have a chance to compare both cars? What was your decision process?

I stand corrected. VO isn't actually "individual" it's a production colour, but it's limited edition for this offer. Laguna is "individual"

I would've compared an M3 to a C63...hence I never even considered the two.

But for my next car, the redesigned C63 will definitely stand a great chance against the F80 M3...I might end up staying with BMW as I absolutely enjoy the driving dynamics behind our cars and TBH, I've been driving a bimmer since I got my first car...

You cant go wrong with the C63 and its a V8 but considering a redesigned one is coming out, you might want to wait and see that first.

Good luck tho!

Yeah, I figured. Well, there are nice wraps that can take you to something quite similar.
