Out of curiosity, does your MPPSK drone quite a bit under 2K rpm. I got mine last year and have the 8 speed auto. Since Auto trans loves to move into highest gear asap, I am seldom driving under 2K rpm and the vibrations in the cabin are driving me crazy. I am in MN as well and got this done at BMW Minnetonka.

Yes, comfort mode should be drone free. Sport mode has drone between 1600-2100 rpms a little, and it also causes a slight vibration on the driver seat during the same rpm band but very minor. Highway cruising in sport below 2000 rpm has the worse drone, but if you keep the rev higher it is just fine. And drone definitely decreased since I had the exhaust installed.
I agree that turning ASD off helps a lot and the car overall sounds a lot better. If you have drone in comfort mode, you should have the exhaust checked; it is possible that it is having contact with something underneath the car. |

Can't say that I have. When I go out later, I will check and see.

In the city drone is not really felt, but that low rpm range on the highway clearly has drone for me. Tune doesn't turn the ASD off, so if you haven't done it, it is definitely on. |

I actually have turned off ASD and totally agree, it sounds much better without the boominess being added by ASD.
I have zero drone in comfort since flaps are closed. In fact in comfort its perfect. In sport mode I have that crazy drone around the 1500 rpm as well all the way to 2000 rpm and its the worst on the highway with low load on the engine. I drive quite a bit on the highway and hence its driving me crazy. Putting transmission into sport mode certainly keeps the revs above 2000 rpm and that's what I do on the highway now as well when in sport mode. I would even be ok with some drone but its the vibrations that drive me mad as a BMW should not be buzzing and they also only happen in sport mode from 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm. You guys make a good point, if something was touching then the vibrations would be there in comfort mode as well. I think I am going to play with getting a resonator installed to see if the drone goes away and suppresses the vibrations along with it. Last edited by M3Dreams; 01-22-2022 at 11:41 PM.. I would definitely prefer to be vibration free, but I love the sound of the exhaust. Resonator would prob fix the drone and the vibration. But, wouldn't it also decrease/affect the air flow and potentially cause issues wit the tune though? |

It will somewhat (minimally) disturb airflow but far from any meaningful amount. It will suppress sound in general and void any warranty on MPPSK and the related engine components, if still present.
(I wouldn't do it. We all got MPPSK for a reason and the sound is beautiful)

Just wanted to say, that I drove my 340i for the first time in about a week and yes...the exhaust note is soooo freakin addicting!

I do that too until the city decided to dump a shit ton of salt on the roads for zero snow. So right now, my 340i stays in the garage until the salt is gone.

I believe it's supposed to be in the mid 50's next week and sunny here. I will more than likely get my car washed this weekend and enjoy it next week.

Looking at the next 10 day's estimates, next Tuesday is the only time temperature will be above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Then it is freezing again. I'll clean the salt knowing that it won't last long, unless suddenly Tuesday's temperature estimates drop.
