Put my summer wheels on and gave her another washing...third time in a week *cough*. Don't mind the beat up front lip. It had a really rough winter but a new one's coming soon.

First day out of winter hibernation, got right to work knocking items off the long list. First job was to ditch the rust prone Zimmerman rotors for OEM two piece. This is on a car that never sees winter driving. Tomorrow it's diff fluid, adjustable links and MPSK!
I also installed that stupid glovebox net that you people showed me and I just had to have... |

Yesterday I took a break from the never ending spring yard work (thank you rain!) to install some long overdue upgrades that were hanging around in my garage. First up are euro spec auxiliry radiator frames with integrated stone guards. Why USA models didn't get these makes no sense! Pretty easy install with no radiator removal required, but note you'll need a long T25 Torx bit to remove the old frames. Second was replacing the brake disc set screws with stainless steel versions. Last, but not least was a mild engine bay aesthetic bolt/washer upgrade for an OEM+ look.... Next weekend I'll be mounting rear carbon fiber arch guards to match the front guards. Cheers!

Nice job on the radiator frame! Where did you get if from, and can you give some installation guidance?

KLE Failure. Replacement installed
Well I got the red circle of death on the charging socket of my 330e. The car would charge the batteries on its own power, but not using a plug. The KLE unit is basically a DC to AC converter. BMW wanted €1,500 for the part. And if it was replaced by BMW. That would be an additional €1,200- €1,300 for labor. So €2,800ish for the complete job.
I decide to do the swap myself. So I sourced a new unit from Germany coming with 1 year warranty for €700 delivered. I needed a small bottle of coolant. and that was it. I didn't have access to a car hoist, So I carried out the work with a car jack and a couple of axle stands in place. The complete job took me 3 hours. I could have easily did it in less then 2 hours if I had the car in the air. Once installed and complete. I plugged in to the charger and the led on the socket went blue after a couple of seconds. The job was a success At a quarter of the price of what BMW wanted to charge I'm happy out.

Replacement is straightforward: Set car on jack stands Remove front wheels Remove front fender liners (10 8mm screws each) Unclip radiator from top frame clips, tilt out the top of radiator and lift up to remove it from the frame Gently set radiator away from the frame Remove the three T25 screws securing the frame its mounting points. You'll need a long T25 for this Gently remove the frame Installation of the new frame is in reverse order. Note for me, getting the new frame set in place was the biggest PIA as the frame sits over the cooling duct and it takes some manipulating of the top of the rubbish duct to align. On the passenger side I had to remove the horn to gain access to the duct. Good luck! |
