Driving my old 430i it was a great car but there was something missing. It had no personality. The MPPSK is exactly what I was looking for. Driving is so much fun now!
Yeah b48 is a great engine but lacks drama and character. It is fast and efficient though. In my opinion the price difference between 430i and 440i is worth every penny.

Agreed the 440i is definitely worth the price of admission. Part of driving a BMW is the experience so you're missing out on the good stuff with a 4 cylinder!

Is anyone going catless or either a high flow cat? I wonder if the MPPSK is too obnoxious with one or is too raspy or if it sounds good.

Catted (300 cell) DP.
It is just on the borderline. Subjectively of course.

There is an appreciable drone between 2000 and 2500 in Comfort (it was there with the stock DP as well, but not that noticeable). A much deeper and louder sound in Sport. It sounds better (more scary and savage) but is just on the borderline for what I would call tolerable when it comes to loudness.

The performance improvement alone from the DP is however also appreciable. Overall the extra discomfort in Comfort is worth it.

A catless downpipe would probably be too loud and would sound raspy if not obnoxiously annoying. remember the mppsk already has resonators and secondary cats removed and bypasses the rear muffler when flaps are open making it a straight pipe.

I agree with Skyhigh that a 300 cell will be on the boarderline of tolerance.

Hmm ok thanks sounds like I should stick to the OEM setup. It is tastefully loud with a tasteful rumble but doesn't overdo it (subjective of course).

The sound is the wrong motivation to upgrade the DP, in case of the MPPSK. In my opinion.
MPPSK offers plenty of it and it is very well balanced! Subjectively, it is an acoustic masterpiece for sport cars enthusiasts.

I upgraded the DP for performance reasons. That gave me more sound and more noise at the same time. I don't mind the extra sound, although I didn't really need it. I do mind the extra noise (e.g. drone in Comfort), but it is a price worth paying for the extra performance.
But alone to tweak the sound - I wouldn't do it, especially considering the price tag as well.

I would also not drive a catless DP with MPPSK, despite a further performance benefit and putting environmental considerations aside. That would definitely be too much sound/noise for my liking. Plus the smell.

I've been toying with the idea to get a catted 300 cell down pipe because I want some more aggressive and louder exhaust, but when I turn the car on and drive in sport/+ mode, I realize I dont want to lose such a unique sound! I am very content keeping my downpipe stock.

Funny story...

Went golfing this past Saturday with my wife's younger brother, his best friend and my wife's younger sisters husband who drives a model 3 Tesla.

I picked up the guy with the Telsa and headed over to the golf course, which was about a 20min drive and the roads where curvy along the way. It was a real nice morning, temps in the low 50s and sunny.

Had the windows down and sunroof open. I put the car in Sport mode and let it rip. He was holding on tight to the door handle and kept telling me "this is a completely different experience than my Tesla...so much more fun and responsive."

Meanwhile, you could hear the MPPSK in the background letting off the pops and bangs..I look over at him and he had a huge smile on his face. Made for a good start to the morning. My golf game..well, thats a sad story but I enjoy playing.

Have a great 4th everyone!

I just found the window sticker for my newish to me (almost 2 months) 440i. The previous owner ordered the MPPSK with the car so it was apparently port installed. I don't know who he is, but he's cool in my book lol. If only he ordered it with carbon fiber tips! Going to have to buy those myself soon.

It looks like everything sounds different when the weather is hot. Since the beginning of the summer, I feel like the soundtrack is different when it is hot outside. Today it was 92 degrees Fahrenheit (34 degrees) and the sound in the cabin in sport mode was somewhat more civilized and it was easier to hear the turbo I think. It is louder on cold winter days. Any thoughts?

I agree the sound changes very noticeably based on the environmental conditions, but my observations are it has more to do with humidity.... when it is humid - the sound is very suppressed and dull. Barely noticeable "sound-effects".
When it is dry, sunny, warmer - it sounds like a different beast with very pronounced sound-effects.

Man I live in Florida I got it rough then lol. I've been wondering why sports mode hasn't been cutting it recently and have been keeping it in sport+ mode.

Yeah actually that makes perfect sense since it was extra humid today!

Not really just muted. I mean there would be some some performance decrease associated with hot air but I don't think I would notice it

I hear you. I'm in Louisiana. It is not yet 8am and it is 80 F already with 86% humidity. Will be at least 100 F today (should feel like 110 or higher with humidity) or so they say. I have windows up and ac on high most of the time so I guess I have not noted much changes because of the other noises. Will have to test to see what I note as far as sound in the cabin. I have not noticed any loss of power that I can tell, at least in normal daily driving.

Maybe it's just me.

Long story short. Back in March, I had my wheels / tires and coilovers installed, the shop put a long scratch on my passenger front door and I had it fixed. The shop denied it and said it was already there, which is totally a lie since I had taken before pictures the day before taking the car in to get the parts installed. Then I showed my wife and her younger brother and he said there was a scratch on the door and that is when I approached the shop and totally denied.

Anyways, I paid to have the scratch professionally fixed and it looks unreal. They even buffed and polished the whole car to my surprise! Def awesome.

So, when I got the car back from getting fixed, almost felt like the car is a little slow. I looked at my sport gauges and they still read 400hp and 400tq. So I am not sure what's up.

Update: Nevermind. We have had some serious humidity here in Cincinnati. I took the car out early this morning and the power is 100% there and the sound is just unreal! Had some fun this morning before all of the crazy people came out.

Hello!

I have recently got 2018 440iX M Sport, been really enjoying it but i would like to get a bit more exhaust sound. Been looking into MPPSK and got quoted 3800$ at the dealer (including labor)

OR i could get just the muffler (no damper, pic below) for 2000$ (including labor)

I feel like almost 4K$ is a bit much for the kit, is it worth that much?

You are confusing MPPSK (complete valved cat-back exhaust + software tune) with MPE (just an axle-back muffler, not at all the same as the one part of the MPPSK).

Read the thread - you will find all answers about MPPSK here. And yes - it is worth it.

The MPPSK is way better than the MPE and is well worth the money. It sounds amazing.

MPerformence and sound kit emissions

I have called to enquire with BMW the costs involved on fitting this kit on to my 2019 440i msport.

Their reply was that sadly it can only be fitted to 2018 and earlier models to meet emissions (UK)

My question now is what is my best option? Getting this and fitting private or are there better options out there if warranty is off the cards?

Thanks in advance
