What exact built date is yours? (VIN check)
Build date of 12/2014. Like the LCI cars the hole is there, but no LED.

Has anyone done this with burl wood trim ? Could the leds from the LCI piece be removed and somehow fitted to the pre-lci trim ?

I love the leds but i also like the silver trim accent piece.

That also was my first idea, but the pre lci trim is too different.
It would take a lot of modification.

I'd personally wait for China to make a chrome stick-on piece for it if you wanted the chrome trim

I'll give this a shot then http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Dashb...JWDkXb&vxp=mtr

worst case scenario i'll gut both parts and make something work out of it. Best case scenarion the trim piece fits the LCI AC cover.

Maybe Ive never looked but my 2012 328 with the lighting package DOES not have illuminated cupholders. I always have the cover for the cupholders on, but I dont think Ive ever seen light coming from there.

Will this still be possible to install without that option?

If someone could post a pic of the proper cupholders and the associated wiring to tap into, that would really clear up where to plug everything in.

Im a bit confused on how the wiring gets routed from the cupholders to the surround.

Thanks for the idea.... its definitely a visual improvement.

The cupholders are illuminated from above, the LED is located in the cover under the ac/radio trim piece.
Look on page 1 of this thread, there you see where its's located and how its wired.
Your car needs to have option 563 'lighting package' to feature the LED.
Unfortunately, if you don't have the LED, my mod won't work.

Just checked.

I DO HAVE the illumination. Its quite weak... so I never noticed it. I was expecting something along the lines of what my E60 530 had. A spot light of sorts on the center console.

Good to know that I can do this mod.

So who knows where to get the parts in the US? I'll check with my dealer tomorrow, and will update anyone that cares. If they have the parts, Im buying them all... if anyone wants them at cost.

Do you have the ambient lighting cranked up all the way in the light menu in your iDrive? You also have these mini spots for the center console, they are located in the cabin light cluster above.

Just for information, my 2014 F31 is a Sport Line, without Lighting Package, and it does have the LED in the cover under the ac/radio trim piece.
Only waiting for parts to start this mod!

What? I just went to the website and searched for the part #s listed in the second post of this thread. I then contacted online chat and told them the shipping charge was ridiculous. They made an adjustment to my account. The total should be: 31.28

What part # are you referring to? The cable parts or the actual trim piece? If the trim piece I contacted Bimmertech but have not heard back yet.

That explains it. I tried to get the trim piece from them. He said its euro only right now. 😓

To the people that have already done this mod help me out a bit please! I trying to remove the plug from the piece but I don't want to keep pulling, in all the other plugs I have removed from other pieces there is always a tab where I apply pressure with a flat head to remove the plug, I don't see one in this plug, can someone please chime in...

Just placed my order for the trim piece from Bimmertech. I should have it in a week or so.

Ordered the parts grand total for everything will come around 40-45€... I'm from Croatia we have cheap-ish EMS shipping so if anyone is really really stuck at sourcing the parts i might be able to help... Trim and Shipping only - cables are on me ( had to order a 10 set pack)... (US/AU members only, if you are from Europe get your ass moving and visit the service center, the parts are in stock in Germany, Austria and Italy as far as my dealer can see).

Very kind offer! I was able to just buy the cable parts in the quantities I needed instead of the 10 set packs. Total for me was about $120. Way over priced but I am too impatient to wait for the parts to become available in the US. My dealer told me I should have the trim part in 1-2 weeks!
