On the F3X chassis, the 18x9" ET42 requires a 5mm front spacer to fit on stock suspension but will provide you with a bit more fender-side clearance compared to the 18x9" ET30. This is beneficial when running more aggressive R-compound tires, as you will be less likely to rub compared to running the same tires/sizes on the 18x9" ET30.

With that being said, the 18x9" ET30 is typically the superior choice for a square setup on the F3X, as it does not require a 5mm front spacer and is able to provide a direct fit in most cases when using street tires. We have seen customers run 245/40-18, 255/35-18, and 255/40-18 tire sizes on the 18x9" ET30 on stock or lowered F3X's without any rubbing. However, due to the lower offset, you will have a higher chance of rubbing on the fenders if you plan to use more track-focused tire compounds.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!

So I’ve read through pretty much every thread on this subject but haven’t quite found confirmation for my F30 XDrive on H&R sport springs: For the Arc 8’s 18x9 et 30, can I get away with a squared setup of 255/40 in Michelin PS4S? I’d like to keep the thicker sidewall due to road conditions around me. I’m not opposed to 255/35 and I know 245/40 is basically a direct fit with my setup but I’d like the wider wheel coverage if I can manage it without rubbing. Thanks for the help!

P.S. I appreciate your previous response a few months back. I’ve since decided to stick with 18’s rather than 19’s due to road conditions and tire prices lol. Will be ordering in the next week or so. Finally!
I have these wheels in this same spec on order and will be installing them with 255/40 tires as soon as they arrive. I am on Dinan springs, which I know are a little different than your HRs, but from what I have read and seen it sounds like they should work. For reference you might look up Aldors set up.

just put mine on

F80 ED springs w/ B8s & Millway camber plates
18x9.5 +35 265/35/18 square. 10mm spacers up front

I didn't weight the full setup, but my previous style 126s were near 35lbs without a tire, compared to these at 18.85... the difference is noticeable to say the least LOL

My daughter has been dying to pull the plastic off the centercaps so those will be on after school

We have seen the 255/40-18 work without issue, but it is pretty close. It really comes down to the specific tire model and ride height. Here's a picture of our customer's F30 running a similar fitment without issue.
  • 18x9" ET30 ARC-8 Wheels in Bronze
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 4s 255/40/18 tires
  • Swift Lowering Springs
  • Stock Alignment specs

Looking good! Care to share your alignment specs and tire model? Any rubbing with that setup?

-2.5F ~-1.9R camber running Federal ST-1. I just went out to do a road test, nothing rubs. Low speed full lock, hairpin turns & off camber turns at speed, freeway run.... everything I could think of with a passenger and didn't hear it rub once.

I should have better photos when I have a chance to shoot with my SLR

edit: better non-cell photos

Excellent thanks! I’ll probably go with 255/35 just to be safe. I’d rather that than drop to 245 only to have a little more protection on the sides. My current 235’s don’t quite fill out my 18x8.5’s, making the lip and face more susceptible to bends and curbing (Boston). I definitely don’t want to have that same issue with a brand new set of 18x9 wheels lol. Now to decide between anthracite or that excellent bronze for my BSM car

Thanks for the feedback. I think it probably would work based on these threads but I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to pull the trigger yet lol. I’m definitely ordering those wheels this week, just a question of what to wrap them with and I still want 255’s. Decisions decisions 🤷🏻*♂️

Everyone wants to know about fitting 18 x 9 ET30 wheels with 255/40/18 tires on their F30.

I just received my new summer wheels which I ordered from Expert@ApexRaceParts on their Black Friday sale.

Tires are Conti DWS O6

Vehicle is 2015 F31 328 wagon

Suspension is KW street comfort. Modest drop.

Perfect fitment, perfect flush, zero rub lock to lock.

Here are filthy pictures of 1 front wheel I put on to test the fit. You will all have to wait until Spring to see cleaner pics.

Love this! Have you changed any suspension parts? Do you feel the car handles better?

Back in 2019 we did a photoshoot of our customer Frederick's F30 328i with a set of 17" Fully Forged APEX EC-7Rs in Bushed Clear Finish.

APEX Wheel Fitment Specs:
  • Front/Rear: 17x9" ET42 EC-7R in Brushed Clear with 255/40-17 tires
  • Spacers: 12mm front spacer to clear coilovers
  • Additional Notes: Rear camber was maxed out to fit the owner's other setup which uses a 18x9.5" ET35 ARC-8 on the rear with 275/35-18 tires.

I really like the look of silver wheels with a black car. Great looking car and great looking wheels.

Hey guys, I just purchased my first BMW (manual '17 330i) last week. This will be the first time I've ever purchased aftermarket wheels, so I just wanted to double check and make sure I'm good to go before I make the purchase.

I want to purchase 2 18x9" ET30 EC-7R's for the front and 2 18x9.5" ET28 EC-7R's for the back, seeing as it's a RWD. Tires will be the Pilot Sport 4S' (245/40ZR18). I do plan on getting coilovers, but that won't be until next year after I move from my current spot.

Am I missing anything or should I be good to go?

If same size tire, why not same wheel width front and rear so that you can rotate tires?

I would recommend our 18x9.5 ET35 or ET45 in the rear instead of the ET28. Even the ET35 is quite aggressive with the appropriate tires. The ET28s will likely cause rubbing.

If you are going with 9.5 inch wheels in the rear, I would also recommend going with a wider rear tire. If the plan is to run the 245/40-18s all the way around, I would recommend running 18x9 ET30 wheels both front and rear instead. These are more than sufficient in terms of width to support those tires and will be a direct fit. The square wheels and tires will also allow you to rotate between the front and rear axles as the tires wear to even out any difference in the wear rate.

Gotcha, to keep things simple I will go with 18x9 ET30's and 245/40-18s all around. Thanks to everyone for the help!

Actually I think the car rides great, no suspension mods or anything yet. I had staggered 19's as well as 20's and this setup gives it a more pleasurable ride.

you have camber plates? i am ordering some millway plates shortly, waiting on my apex wheels i ordered during the black friday deal, just got a set of ohlins coilovers and debating whether or not to swap out the 8" spring to a 7" spring in the front for more clearance. i have a set of 265/35/18 hankook rs4 brand from my e82 that i wanted to try to put on the front with the 18x9 et31 arc 8.

Here are some photos from the shoot posted a couple weeks back with the Forged ARC-8R in Brushed Clear finish. Both the ARC-8R and EC-7R look amazing in Brushed Clear!
