The first of two 'care packages' from Autodoc have just landed

This is the shocks/springs and top mounts from AD plus the Mteconline 12mm spacers and stud conversion

The rest should land in a few days from Autodoc and that's all the suspension ready to go one come Jan 2024

Lots of goodies

I wish AutoDoc would use plain packaging given lots of cars are nicked for parts these days!

Just a nosey question. Considering all the effort and money you're putting into your car, how long do you plan on keeping it?

Great job you're doing with it

It's fine; a good few years...

We're massively overpaying the mortgage to get rid of it in the next 2 years, so I can see me having the car for at least that long

We don't do high miles, 6k max, but average is 4-5k - we do have some ideas re road trips next year though (NC500, Northern France/Normandy/La Rochelle etc) so it'd be a superb car to do those in

That's on top of our usual jaunts up to The Highlands and down to Anglesey etc

If I get the work done now; it's done and I can enjoy it

If we ever come to sell the car; someone will get a low'ish miles car for its age and obviously very well looked after

Will you be doing the work yourself?
I would love to do NC500, maybe in a few years when my son is older

I'll build the front suspension up; but that's it. It'll all go to my motorsport mechanic pal who'll have it for a few days and then do a full tracking/alignment & fast road set up for me

I'm unfortunately crocked again; so rolling around under a car this time of year; aint gonna happen

Plus if anything goes wrong/bolts seized etc; my pal has all the tools and knowledge, more so as he's ex BMW M Sport and Ford M Sport too...

Better in his hands than mine with my trusty 12lb sledgehammer

It's a great episode!

I'd love to buy my very first Jap import Honda, an original EF8 CRX with the B16 1.6 VTEC engine; what a great car that'd be for it...

I'm sure the F31 would do a great job of it; but would be up there for the scenery too and to visit Skye

The idea is to stop somewhere near Skye and use that as a base to see that corner of Scotland and do parts of the NC500 whilst we're up there

Love me some car parts being delivered!
That stash looks great, and a suspension refresh is going to make the world of difference.

Haha yeah; it's mirroring last year when I did similar with my Jap import E39 540i Sport

Looking forward to getting all this done on the F31 come Jan 2024 though; it'll be a superb drive after that I reckon.

Just in time for our New Year jaunt up to the Highlands

Just ordered the cooling system refresh parts!

May as well take advantage of that discount

Blimey, nearly half! Although to be fair, AutoDOC are like the never ending DFS Sofa discounts.

And the final building blocks of the parts list

The cooling system overhaul - Febi stat, water pump and stat housing & Gates top/bottom hoses

I've got Comma G48 and deionised water in the garage; so will see if my pal can get the car in before Christmas and get that job done and out of the way

Wow someone is going to benefit from one hell of a well looked after F31 if/when you sell it one day in the future Dan. Hats off. Until then it will serve you extremely well I’m sure.

I had a good example of unplanned maintenance this weekend - windscreen washers stopped working. Turns out it was gunk in the tank and just needed a good clean out. Tried doing it in situ with drain cleaner to no avail so had to take the bottle out from behind the OSF wheel arch / wing.
Only mentioning it as it’s a worthwhile one to check if youre doing any work under your wheel arches and it’s up in the air… better than doing it on the ground. In the snow. In the dark. 😆

Cheers

Yeah; preventative maintenance etc... I know we'll have the car for at least another 1-2 years minimum, so may as well do it now and enjoy it and not leave it until too late etc

And re the washer bottle; one of the first jobs I did when I got the car home & on the drive after collecting it; it wasn't too bad TBH and all pumps worked fine/still work fine now..

But a good clear out doesn't do them any harm; but you do have to remove one of the pumps so it can drain out etc

My previous F01 was terrible; both pumps absolutely blocked and it was a wrestle to get that bottle out; they're like a cartridge etc and my hands aren't small / patience isn't the best

Mate tell me about it - it’s a right fiddly job isn’t it.
I took all 3 pumps out, cleaned out the tank as it was full of grime and sediment, and then after putting it all back together, checked it was all good before refitting the arch liner and…… leak! Turns out I’d broken the outlet from the rear washer pump, just bent it too much when inserting it.

Back out, epoxy glue overnight, all’s good now.

My retrimmed wheel landed back today from the guys at Royal Steering Wheels

Finished in black alcantara with M stitching; it looks superb and feels fantastic in the hand

It'll get fitted in the New Year when all the other work gets done

It is lovely pal; £75 for a bare wheel off eBay (specific for paddles) and then sent that to them. £185 for the re-trim

Looking forward to having that fitted 09th Jan onwards; I'll drop the car with my pals and leave it with them for a good few days
