So I've not been able to ride my bike since I got back from Majorca due to my front wheel now being scrapped, Mavic have denied a manufacturing issue but kindly agreed to "repair" it for a small fee of £600 which made me sick a little in my mouth when I read it.
So I've been bored on nights at work the last couple days and this is the time I usually come up with my greatest man maths and well, I think I've done it again. Initially I planned to just straight replace the Mavic Comete Pro carbon wheels with some Hunt Aerodynamicist 62mm wheels for a price of £1200 but it got me thinking that £1200 is a lot of £ to spend on new bits for a now 6 year old bike. So I priced up how much I could sell the components of my bike for - 2018 Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 9.0 frame, forks, seat post, cockpit - £800 Shimano R9100 Dura Ace Mechcanical groupset - £800 Quarq Dfour powermeter and carbon crank-set £300 Mavic Comete Pro Carbon rear wheel - £250 coming in at about £2k after selling fees I had a look at my employers cycle to work scheme where I found a 2023 Giant Propel Advanced Pro 1 for £5499. Now through the scheme the cost of this bike would be £2870 over 12 months... now takeaway the money gained from selling the old bike £2k thats a cost of about £900 for a brand new bike! Cheaper then the £1200 wheelset I was considering. No brainer right?! Anyway some pics of the bike and some specs, wont get it until June but that wont stop me being excited! Full carbon frame, seat post etc Sram Rival Etap AXS disc 12 speed group set with powermeter included Giant SLR 1 50MM carbon wheel set Last edited by Danj94; 05-05-2023 at 04:50 PM.. |

My new toy.
Nothing particularly fancy compared to other posts on here. Boardman Adv 8.9. My other bike now pretty much on my trainer full time, so this saves me the hassle of taking it on and off. Used an excellent mobile bike mechanic to build the bike and set it all up. Happy to share his details for anyone in the Glasgow area. |

Thanks, it's some of my best man maths to date, sold it to the Miss's with ease... haha, all I had to say is the disc brakes are better then rim brakes which means ill be safer out on the roads.... and we save a couple hundred quid over getting just the wheels.

Now that I’m cycling a bit more I feel I can justify upgrading the bike computer.
Currently using a cheapo Cateye computer, which interestingly is having an issue with the speed dropping off which I’ve discovered is due to the Leyzne led front light I’m using. So, using that as an excuse to treat myself to a new GPS bike computer - any recommendations? Not looking to spend a huge amount but interested in what other people’s experiences are? Cheers. |

everyones different and a lot to you could be different so someone else but I really would suggest a Wahoo Bolt Roam, I have had numerous Garmins etc but the wahoo bolt is a really excellent piece of kit in my opinion. The V1 is going cheap now as there is a v2 version. https://startfitness.co.uk/products/...xoC1vUQAvD_BwE |

The v2 has been out for a couple of years but I see no reason to 'upgrade' when the v1 does everything I need. Small enough to be unobtrusive but large enough to display the metrics I use. |

These days I have a QuadLock mount on my bikes and just use my iPhone with either Strava or a cycle-specific app like Cyclemeter. Google maps is good for navigation, and if you have an Apple watch you get the added benefit of crash protection - if you have an off and stop moving, the watch contacts emergency services and your designated emergency contacts. Pretty handy if you ride solo in less populated areas, so long as you have a signal that is... |

I went for a Garmin Edge 830 coupled with a Varia RCT715 (combined light, radar, camera) also added a speed sensor just for when GPS is bit dodgy. All works really well together and I really like the advanced warning from the radar of cars approaching.

I have an Edge 130
Didn’t want anything big or fancy and it pairs with my HR, power meter and phone just fine. It does do navigation but you have to preload the course and you only get directions, no mapping. Really depends on what you want from it. I just wanted something to monitor my speed, HR and power. I usually ride with my club so navigation is not a primary use. |

Garmin man here and always will be.
I just use my smart watch on the bike these days. Does all I will ever need. Slightly smaller screen mind yes. Saving for me though as no need for a specific unit now.

Well the new steed turnt up today and must say very impressed, it came completely built and setup, just adjusted the seat post height and fitted the Wahoo mount and went out for an hour. First time I've ridden SRAM and first time I've ridden with electronic gears (eTap) and I must say its silky smooth! Bike feels lovely! pic below, sorry about the cat bowls perhaps not the best spot for a pic but I was excited!

Currently in Scotland for half term, first time I’ve really had the chance to push the Creo…..I have to say I now ‘get’ gravel, and the Creo itself is just a beautifully engineered bike. Our of all the gadgets I own, the Creo is by far my favourite.
Got the rest of the week to go and I intend to make the most of all the amazing sun here . |

Did a 14 mile road route around the Loch before we left Scotland. The Creo is devastating quick on/off the road. Felt like riding my Trek Madone at times over rolling terrain, the only difference been the 10% sharp/short kicker could now be tackled at decent speed without dying!!!
Upgrade path is now clear, decent set of carbon rims + tires + smaller cassette for the road, and use existing wheelset for gravel riding with fatter tires. After the wheelset is done, Di2 GXR upgrade for the rear mech, and some carbon handle bars. Absolutely fabulous bike, Specialized is going to my 1st choice for future bikes.....still 'need' an electric assisted hardtail |
