Just booked my retrofit for the 17th. Had to wait that long because I wanted a loaner based on folks comments.

Mine expires in August '17. Wasn't going to renew anyway. Taking the $200.

My E92 M3 has been at the dealership for a week now... right now I'm told I won't get it back until Tuesday... the CIC unit may have gotten corrupted during coding, and BMW NA has authorized a new CIC be installed.

Expect it to be a week or more. They do not have the boxes in stock. Once you elect the combox retrofit - they have to contact bmw assist and get the combox sent to them. Then they have to install it (that could be an hour and a half there), but then they have to completely re-code the car with the latest 6 update. They will backup settings, then code, then restore settings. That takes a while (and from what I've heard so far - most dealers have to try coding twice - first time doesn't take right). I've heard some people say they had to get a new CIC because the bmw guys bricked them... so it's a crap shoot - but expect a loaner car and a week.

Dropped mine off this morning. They said they have the parts and the car should be ready this afternoon. We will see. They said they have already done a few with no problems.

ugh...I did ask for a loaner but he was "confident" it wasn't going to be needed. We'll see if not I better get a loaner... a new 340 would be nice to rip around town in.

Well, its possible that your dealer had a lot more than other dealers, and maybe it's possible his techs are experienced in this - and if that all applies, then it could be done quicker... but the coding does take about an hour or 2 - and the installation does take about an hour. I've never seen dealers do things quick... they usually like to bill back for hours - unless there is a technote that says bmw won't pay for anymore hours than X...

but hey, here is the good thing - if they are able to get it in and out the same day - then at least you know you have a dealer that is up to date with retrofits and has done them before... :-) Good luck!

I'm currently waiting for a new CIC. Not bricked but also not working right on the reverse PDC graphics not showing.

Got mine replaced last Tuesday and took until Friday. I also had them re-program the Autostart/off feature to always be off. No issues with the new hardware they installed, and so much nicer not having to turn off the Autostart/off button.

My car was done on Friday, so it took a week for mine. I lost all coding, not just coding related to the combox. I also noticed that my car now honks twice if I lock it from the outside with it running. I don't ever remember that happening before, and I don't think I coded it out. So, it appears they installed new firmware for the car.

I only have a safety/sos subscription, so I can't give much feedback on other features. However, that feature does still work as expected.

I'm dropping mine off tomorrow morning. They have my parts already but I'll be the first car they've done. Besides coding being lost I'm hoping my sports shifter being installed won't cause an issue. I have my original non-sports shifter still, may just throw it in the trunk in case they need it.

I am still waiting for my new box to be activated. I took my car from the dealership since they told me it would take like three weeks for the box to be activated. I am not with no combox since the activation process disconnects the old one from the service. I cannot wait to have this crap done.

Do you still have functions such as Google Send to car, BMW Online, remote app unlock/lock, horn, lights etc?

yes, all of that still works from the BMW app or the connected drive website. I also noticed that the HUD speed limit now displays "no limit" instead of dashed lines when it doesn't know the speed limit. (wonder if I can tell the cops my car told me I can drive faster :-) )

Got my car back, they had it for a day. Everything seems to work as before. Still need to check a few things out. It seemed to keep the old settings. I had the autostart/off feature to be always off and that is working.

Dropped off my car Friday morning and it was ready for pick up yesterday around noon. On the invoice under comments for the retrofit the tech stated, "...programming failed, programmed vehicle again, performed test call..."

Made a test call on my way home and no issues with BMW Assist. Now curiously I'm not getting text messages on the car. Prior to the retrofit no issues getting texts from my iPhone 6 running iOS 10.

You need to go into the Bluetooth settings and make sure it's enabled for text. When they get that program error, they do a full reprogram, and usually messes up your Bluetooth (meaning you probably had to repair the phone maybe?). So check that (you need to activate Bluetooth for office, streaming audio, etc). Then if that doesn't work, while the phone is connected via Bluetooth (and all the boxes have been checked to support messages, etc). change your notification to alert or banner - and have somebody send you a test message. Also try the send to car feature and make sure it works. you can do that from the BMW app or the connecteddrive website.

How long after the install did it take before you could log into account after retrofit?

Has anyone done this with the bimmertech backup camera? Since some people have been having complications with their CIC unit I wonder what BMW would do if they saw you added this module.

I have the bimmertech camera on my E92, and I'm the guy that has had a new CIC unit installed. They obviously saw the unit when they swapped the CIC, but didn't say/do anything.

It depends on your shop -- some are strictly by the book, in which case they could turn around and charge you hours. Some, esp. those shops that support enthusiasts, will make a judgment call and generally leave you alone. My shop has been enormously accommodating.
