I am using the 20.1.4.11 MCU that my Carlinkit seller sent to me and the Sha1 Hash between that MCU and the Bimmertech MCU are identical. I suspect that, at the time of it's release, all of the vendors were using the same MCU including Andream. So MCU v20.1.4.11 is also an "official" Andream MCU even though Andream doesn't share the file. All of the vendors seem to have started implementing different software in Feb.2020.

The issue with pausing music is most likely caused by the updated Andream system file.

And I agree, not only is it difficult to obtain updates from any of these vendors but when we do they seem to be poorly developed. I have a basic iDrive controller that only moves left or right and not up or down. The setting to change a left or right toggle of the iDrive to up and down doesn't work on the latest Carlinkit software v9.2.2.yl.b. This is why I reverted back to v9.1.9.yl.b

Looking into a way on Android to disable the MMI bluetooth after connecting to android auto. So far, the only way I can see is to set Android's developer option "Maximum connected Bluetooth audio devices" to 1. Not sure if this option exists on other versions of android, but it does exist for Android 10. In theory, after connecting to the MMI and initiating Android Auto, you can manually disconnect from the MMI and then set max devices to 1, preventing it from doing its annoying auto connect. The next step is to automate this process using Tasker.

When i use my Android auto Waze is all the Time in night mode. With all parameter in Waze (day auto night).

Do yo have any idea ?

If you had 6.5" screen, would you guys get the MMI and maybe later upgrade to a used 8.8" or just buy a 10.25" Android? My main use will be Android Auto any way (waze, music and calls).

my car had the 6.5

i went 6.5 > 8.8 > mmi > 10.25 bmw

i thought about the android screens, but the screen quality and glare seem to be an issue plus there were a lot of issues at the time with other things. i haven't followed that development in awhile so you might want to research a bit.

personally, id still go mmi plus bigger bmw screen again though. i probably wouldn't have bothered going to the 10.25 again though just for the headache of modifying it

The new Android multimedia seems better with Qualcomm and 1920x720 screens and you can also have AA or CP so you get it all in one, but reading the forum about it, it seems everyone have some issue after sometime. I am sure bmw 8.8 screen will last longer and with better display and although full Android is nice, I am mostly just listening to music with Spotify.

I guess I'll take the MMI and upgrade my OE screen.

Hi All, i recently got this unit, all is working fine apart from gps. when navigating, gps seems to get lost every couple mins, it only happens when connected to carplay, navigation works fine on the phone if not connected to carplay. any idea what could be causing this. I have just updated to the latest versions now and not tested that yet, hopefully that resolves it but if anyone has any other suggestions, pls let me know. I have the small basic screen with no factory nav. many thanks

Hi, yes it’s andream unit. I have iPhone X running latest iOS 13.5 , i tried it with my wife’s iPhone 8 Plus as well and it has the same issue. It has this issue on all the nav apps including Apple maps, google maps and Waze.
The issue is that it starts navigating just fine, but then 2 mins later it will loose the gps signal and google maps / Waze will freeze or if I’m using apple maps, it will constantly start saying ‘proceed to route’

Apparently, this loss of gps signal could be due to the unit trying to provide it’s own gps data rather than using the phones gps signal. Is that true? Does the andream unit have its own GPS signal?

Great thread and found some excellent info.

I ordered Andream unit for my F10 M5 (NBT) last night after going through this thread and deciding against the android screen.

Also looking to get a rear camera but a bit confused if I only need a camera or some module on top? Bimmertech sells the camera for $300 on top of MMI kit so I was thinking maybe it is not just the camera but something else as well to get it working?

I came across cossie1 post at the start of this thread where he mentioned that Andream's camera had fitment issues. Is that issue resolved? You reckon it is ok to go with the camera from them? And the question above remains, I just order the camera and it connects to MMI directly or need something in between? Cheers

You don't need any other module, it's just the camera and it connects direct to the MMI. Bimmertech just seem to order parts from china and add there markup to them.

As for the andream camera, it fits fine, it is just the pin used to contact the release switch is made incorrectly (so need to pull it much harder than the stock bmw one), but having looked closely at pictures of the various camera's they all seem to be the same, so probably all made from the same moulds.

I bought this couple days back, the seller fitted it for me as we are in the same city, everything works fine. As i mentioned couple of posts back i was having gps issues, but that seems to have been resolved now after i updated the unit to the latest version. the unit itself works flawlessly and the seller is really helpful and friendly.
