Tell him that's BS, that BMW will pay for it. Others have already had it done w/no cost (ours is scheduled for tomorrow).

My dealer said the same thing but said they would eat the cost.

If I took delivery and brought the car back, BMW says it would have been no charge.

Interesting - maybe she should ask if there'd be no charge if she brought it back for A.S.S. coding after delivery...

I know some who have had it done already had it done at/before delivery time, and I haven't heard of anyone paying for it whether done at/before delivery or at a subsequent visit to the dealer...

I'd love to see what someone reading this forum would think without context

"My ass sucks"
"I'm getting my ass reprogrammed"
"If they don't fix my ass, I want a refund"
"Ass is the best thing ever to happen to me"
"I hate the planet so you can keep your ass and stick it up your ass"

Epic

Not sure if I should be worried now - it took my dealer over a week just to get the software downloaded so they could attempt this tomorrow...

Any time your dealer offers to eat your ASS it's a good thing.

Are you referring to the USB port in the glovebox? Bcz we don't have nav, so we don't have that. We will have to redo the profile stuff. It's worth it.

Do you have an import/export setting in the Profiles setting menu?

If so, I'd bet you can just use the console USB port for that function if there isn't a USB port in the glove box. Have you tried that?

No, that is a great idea, but I did look for that last week (& it's not there); however, the dealer just called and they're telling me it did NOT lose the profile settings. Going to get 'er now & verify!

Turns out the 299 dollars were the labor charge...they were going to charge 3 hours and are not willing to eat the cost. I don't know what to do. Guess I will have to take it to another dealer later on. I still have to get pick it up later today. My excitement has diminished a little bit because of this.

BMW will pay for the labor. Don't let this diminish your excitement - pick up the car, then call them next week about programming the stop/start. At that point, see if they still expect you to pay for the labor - if they do, go to another dealer to get it done. I just got mine done today and as with every other person on here who has had it done, the cost to me was $0. I would not worry about it at all.

Folks,
Just curious, what is the lapse time from when a car becomes stationary to the time the engine turns off?

Reason I ask is that living here in NYC, would the engine continuosly shut off because I am sitting in normal stop and go traffic found on the Gowanus expressway or traffic entering one of the tunnels?

My experience has always been that the engine will use more fuel do to continuosly starting the engine.
Hhmmm have I always been wrong?

My understanding is it's 2 seconds. I'm sure someone who actually knows for certain will be able to confirm or deny that pretty quickly though

2 Seconds!!! I cant even pull out of my parking spot in less than 15-20 seconds do to traffic which flows down my street boxing me into my parking spot.

Actually I was expecting you to say something like 5-7 minutes.

It turns off as soon as you come to a stop. It won't keep turning off if you are in stop and go traffic. You have to get back up to a certain speed before it will trigger again.

In my opinion and driving style, this is much more of a nuisance than an asset. Road rage would peak first thing in the morning.

If you're in stop start traffic then there's the most to be gained. You could always add the adaptive cruise control to your options list and let the car drive itself in traffic

LOL!
Add the NAV and the car will even know how to get there without you telling it.

I luv BMW, probably one of the best automobiles I have ever owned in my 30 plus yrs of driving. But some of the options or perks like my Descent Control have got to be wondered about.
I own a house in upstate NY that is on the top of a Mtn. My road drops an altitude of close to 220 feet in an 1/8th of a mile. In the winter Salt trucks actually back there way up the road so that salt is spread first so they get traction. I have yet once to remember I have the Decent Control option when going down in either summer or Winter.
