F30 LCI - LED is cracked

So, whilst driving, I hit a pheasant on a country road. The LED was smashed from the impact.

Called BMW and new single LED unit is £1,524.00 inclusive of VAT.
Astonishing price , and its not even adaptive LED.

I have checked ebay and there are "used" Genuine BMW LED units with no faults for circa £1000 plus, per Light unit. I found a Left and a Right (set), for £1550 total, used in good working condition!!!

My main worry about buying a used unit, is the installer will not warrant the materials if there are functioning problems or defects after installation.

I'm not going to claim on insurance, i want to protect my annual premium.

So, do I splash the cash, and have full warranty on labour and materials direct with BMW?

The BMW dealership I spoke to said the LED will need programming in, and the bumper would need removing to remove broken LED / install new one. Is this right? estimated £180 on labour!!

It won't need coding but the bumper has to be removed.

Regular f30 Led headlights on ebay sell between 300-400gbp without modules, there are at least 4 different part numbers for the same part but they will all fit your car.

Your insurance still goes up even with protected NCD. You still get your 60/65% off, but off the bigger price because you have had a claim (and have to declare it five years). It's just a case of weighing up which way you will be worse off.

If you buy a used set and then swap all the light control modules from the old unit into the new unit and fit it then it doesnt need coding. This worked well when my f36 headlight glass cracked when my neighbour moved some things to his back yard. He kindly owned and paid for the damage so my assumption is it will work fine for the LEDs as well

You can buy replacement lenses, have a look, unless the unit is smashed completely!??

Did the pheasant exchange insurance details? I bet it did not have any!

Thanks for all the replies people.

I did check the LEDs to see if they were working after the incident, and no light was emitting from the smashed unit and it looked pretty crumpled from the impact. So I assumed it was not repairable. New one is ordered now. But I have asked BMW to check to see if a new replacement lens is possible.

Not going Insurance, as my excess is really high, then the premium increases each year, not worth it. Plus i cant really drive car until claim is all sorted, 5 to 10 days.

Did you order through BMW?

Quite a few on eBay for around £420-450:
