I'm 30 and this is my first BMW. I didn't own my first car until I was 20 for a few reasons: First, my family just simply didn't have the money for me to be driving right at 16 (compared to most of my friends who got cars and a license as soon as they were 16). Second, at 18 I was in the Army and acquiring and storing a POV initially with our frequent deployments just wasn't feasible.
I've owned a lot of cars, let's see if I can remember them all in any kind of order: 1971 Dodge Charger (stupid first car, ended up never finishing it. Had a well built new 440 but turned out to be a bondo barge) 1992 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 (former police car) 1996 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 (former police car) 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (so many modifications...too many to list really. suffice to say it was originally a pathetic 305/auto car and when I sold it there was a 420rwhp 355 and T56 in it) 1996 Chevrolet Beretta (beater) 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (slightly modified) 2000 GMC Sonoma (beater) 2004 Saturn Ion (wife's) 2006 Pontiac GTO (slightly modified) 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 (6.2...heads, cam, headers, etc made 447rwhp) 2011 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ (wife's) 2013 BMW X3 35i (wife's) and finally, my current 2014 335i M-Sport Well that should cover it....aside from some other random beaters or project cars that never got off the ground or ran for an extended period of time.

Having driven nothing but 3 series for the last 32 years, finally tried something new. I am the proud owner of a brand new 435i M Sport at age 61! Age has nothing to do with it, love is love! The 3 and 4 series are what BMW is all about.
Perfect size and balance with impeccable driving dynamics. 5, 6, and 7 series are all very nice but are bloated boats by comparison! |

I'm 74.
My histoire de l'addiction is below in the sig. In addition to the bimmers there were some MG's (high test 25 cents a gallon), Porsches and Alfas, and a brief flirtation with Detroit iron (Camaro's and a Slam Bam Trans Am with Fire-chicken decal covering a 460 cubic inch V8 - high test was up to 60 cents a gallon and I thought I was being robbed ). I bought my first BMW, a '73 Bavaria, before there was a BMW of North America. The dealer was co-located with a dodge dealer. The Monroney sticker listed Hoffman Motors, Park Ave., NYC as the U.S. importer. Remember Max Hoffman, the guy who started the furrin car craze by importing these things called MG's, Triumphs, and Volkswagens? There was no such thing as BMW factory trained and certified techs (they were called mechanics back then). For maintenance and repair you were pretty much on your own. I liked my Bavaria, but it had the habit of overheating in traffic, and the paint would oxidize and disappear before your eyes revealing a nice creamy primer coat. To keep a vestige of paint on the car I learned not to ever try to wax or polish it. i joined the fledgling BMW Car Club of America and received my first issue of the ROUNDEL. It was 5x8 inches, run off on a mimeograph machine, hand stapled, and contained mostly letters from Bavaria owners complaining of chronic engine overheating and lousy paint. I sold the Bavaria. I eventually came back about ten years later and have been driving bimmers ever since. In 1966 I remember driving my Alfa GT Veloce to see the new movie Grand Prix with James Garner. I'll never forget the opening of that movie on the wide screen, Super Panavision no less, the driver's eye-view from the cockpit of a Formula One car going around the streets of Monaco. I've never seen anything quite like it before or since. It's still the greatest racing movie ever made. Sadly I read today that James Garner just passed away. John Frankenheimer, the director, is long gone, as is Yves Montand. Time marches on. PS: Sorry for the geezin'.

I'm 35.
My car history wen't like that: 99 Mazda Protege (Bought used, kept 2 years) 05 MazdaSpeed6 (New, kept 6 years) 08 Subaru Legacy SPEC.B (used, kept 10 months) 08 BMW 335Xi (used, kept 2 years) 13 BMW 328i X-drive Sportline (New, first automatic and first leased car) I like my BMWs, but the star here was the Mazdaspeed6, even with the poor reliability. It's not a well knowed car, but damn was it driving well. BMW could learn a few things from Mazda on the suspension side. Will the next car be a BMW? I guess it all depends if they fix the battery charging issues or if I finally accept it. I kind of regret not going with a Lexus IS350.

. I thought it would be interesting to see the average age of F3x owners as well as some interesting car history.

Just turned 20 years old not too long about.
Car ownership is in my signature below... But might as well participate! 1. 2011 Ford Mustang 3.7L V6 Premium 2. 2010 Ford Flex 3.5L V6 FWD Limited (Didn't list this below because it was a temp lease takeover) 3. 2003 BMW e46 325i Sport 4. 2010 Audi A6 3.0T Supercharged S-Line 5. 2014 BMW 335i xDrive M-Sport (current) I think I'm going to have the 335i for quite a while now since I have yet to sit in another car that I enjoy driving more than mine. Unless they have an xDrive M3/M5, then maybe!
