Anyone running aftermarket wheels? I need inspiration.
I love my stock 466 but 18 just doesn't feel right with this big car. Wanna run aftermarket 19s and had my eyes set on Radi8 R8A10, not so sure about it after my friend did some PS work.

19s ride harder and are more prone to damage than 18s. They look nice, but aren't practical. I'd only consider them with summer only rubber, or in areas where there's no pothole season.

Old saying at the car company where I worked: "Designers love big wheels. Engineers don't."
I actually find that first set painful. The pattern looks like a bowl my grandmother would fill with fresh fruit.

From all dynamic aspects, it's an inch in the wrong direction just to please an aesthetic preference. 22s would be 4 inches in the wrong direction. We're just discussing how far you want to go in that direction. What is your priority?

Absolutely true...there is a market for such and profit awaits. I can tell you that when the Design Office gets together with Sales&Marketing to add these larger and larger wheels, the Suspension/Chassis engineers shake their head and do what they can to minimize the effects, but would reverse that trend in a nanosecond if they could. I've been in the meetings of a competitive global auto company where we had these very arguments, and then on track and road test drives with mules where we sorted out the result. The engineers are right.
Having said that, if you have a vehicle tuned for 18", you may please your eyes with going upsize, but other dynamics will deteriorate (except possibly for a bit of steering "crispness" when the sidewall shrinks, but that is minimal and far outweighed by the other losses.) That is why I seriously asked about priorities. If looks are more important than everything else, do what you think looks best. But, be aware of the trade-offs in case that is not your number one goal.

This is a freaking picture post......If you don't have a picture of your 3GT on aftermarket 19s get the hell out.
Anybody who lecture me about the handling on these things, have you ever driven a 3GT, it's a boat like the R33! If I want your opinions on handling mods I'll open up another post. No wonder people say BMW owners are idiots. Never seen this many morons in any Skyline forum. |

If you don't want advise don't ask a question. You did say 18 just doesn't feel right with this big car. If you think that larger wheels will give you better handling you need a lot of advise. But you won't get any by biting the hand that's trying to feed you.

I'm tempted on putting 20s on simply because:
* I already own them * they're BMW OEM After doing some research discovered that they're too big so shelving that idea. Now the question I have (apologies for the hijack) - were 3GTs always squared? |
