1st. Yes I'm an idiot.

Last Saturday night, was going from one family event to another. Left a half bag of ice in the trunk

Got in my car Monday, car smelt like pure unwashed a**.
Left the trunk open most of the day in the driveway, used some rags and paper towel to dry up as much water as I can. No standing water tho when I initially opened the trunk. Had my floor carpets back there so that didn't help the smell situation.

Any advice on what to do get this all cleaned up and smelling good again.

Got 2 days of rain about to hit East PA so I can't just leave the trunk open. Not until Friday.

Portable electric dehumidifier, Damp rid or dri z air, Rock salt, uncooked rice, charcoal

Before using the above I'd get a wet/dry vac and suck up what moisture you could out of the carpet and foam backing

Once its dry douse it with baking soda and let sit for as long as possible. We have 4 dogs who are constantly wet and muddy which is not a great additive for carpet. Baking soda is the only thing we have found to get rid of the "wet dog" smell. We buy the 12lb container, apply liberally (not a dusting but by the shovel load) and brush it in good with a broom, let it sit for 24 hrs. Vacuum up and were good for a few more months.

ozone generator will help as well after removing the moisture.

Definitely gotta shop vac after work today to see if I can get some more water out of the carpet.

Electric dehumidifier sounds like a good buy tho for now and the future

I'd recommend baking soda.

Copy on the baking soda.
Ill shop vac real well then apply baking soda.
I got some miscellaneous stuff under the felt board where the spare tire usually goes so I'll have to check that as well.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I similarly had a wine bottle break. Not only did I have to deal with the stain but also with the smell. I initiallly didn't realize the bottle broke it was more of a crack and slow leak.

I was able to wash it out but eventually replaced the bottom piece. I don't recall the part number but I believe it purchased it from BMWparts.

Do everything that was mentioned, if you're still unhappy, then just replace that piece.

Edit: To add to the other deodorizing tips, you can also use coffee grinds (even used grinds if dried out) or whole coffee beans. Crumbled charcoal works too but place it a breathable cloth to be able to absorb any unwanted funk.

For the most part the smell has gone away. Every now and then I'll get a whiff of it when I open the trunk, maybe I'll go ahead and replace that lining under neath

Good consideration, I own the same style bmw mats for the actual interior seating. I wonder what the price of this runs

Don't remember but certainly much cheaper than a flooded trunk, especially if not by water.
Literally the first accessory I bought for the car.

you can use a solution of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dawn dish soap.

I think the dilution is 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide and 2-3 drops of dawn. I use it in customers cars to get rid of pet urine smell, works wonders. ( I know my wife tells me people in her mom group use it for their kids that wet the mattress) Might do the same for you as well. You can mix it up and put it in a spray bottle and just spray it on. Work it in with a brush, let it air dry or fan dry it.

But I would definitely be getting all the moisture out of there first with a wet dry vac or extractor, and if you have a buddy or someone who has an ozone generator you could try that.

if you don't want to deal with any of that headache I would do what others have suggested and just replace the parts, can't be that expensive.

+1 for the all weather trunk liner. I have the sport edition (red/black) One of the first "mods" I did to the car with the matching all weather mats inside the car.
