As I recall a new fob must be coded to the car by holding it under the steering column. You can't do that if you can't get into the car.

I use comfort access to lock my doors. I almost locked my fob in the car one time but the car wouldn't lock thankfully. Didn't realize my fob fell out of my pocket before I got out. Thank you bmw lol. Any other (older) car and I would have been screwed.

Getting another key made is probably the easiest option.
Way cheaper just to call to the tow truck dude who uses a slim-jim to pop the lock.

with a new fob, you get the physical key cut, then use the new cut key to open the driver door, then grab the old keyfob to disable the alarm, then place the new fob by holding it under the steering column.

Ahh so getting a new fob from the dealer would be doable in this scenario. The dealer would be able to cut the physical key that would allow you to open the door. Good call!

I can't figure that out either. You can't even push the lock button down with the door open.
The only way I know you can lock the fob in the car is if you leave it in the trunk when the doors are already locked.
Today, I found out this doesn't work. I was putting my stuff in the trunk of my F30 and when I closed the trunk, the car beeped three times and the trunk popped open. I thought I was pressing a button on the key fob in my pocket, but then realized that the fob was not actually in my pocket. So I picked up the jacket in my trunk and guess what was underneath? I also noticed that I can't put my 2nd Key Fob in the trunk (inside my backpack or lunch box) as it will pop the trunk when I close it.

That saved me a hassle since the car was still locked and my house was locked up. I vaguely remember my E90 did the same thing once and that car did NOT have Comfort Access while this F30 does.

That may be the case with CA. I have standard access. One of the first things I did after getting the car was to lock the car and put a fob in the trunk so see if it would close and lock. It did. I then got the other fob from the house to open the trunk.
I did this experiment because I keep my fob in my golf bag when on the course. If I put the bag close enough to the car after playing I'd be able to open the trunk without taking the fob out of the bag, toss the bag and fob into the trunk, then lock the bag and fob in the trunk and me out of the car. That taught me to always take the fob out of the bag and unlock the car before opening the trunk.

If I only had one fob I'd get a dummy blank mechanical key to put in it and I'd keep the real mechanical key separate from it, just in case.

For sure, they're definitely not cheap if your car didn't come with 2 but it's always a good idea to have a 2nd key fob. I keep my 2nd in my room in case of any emergencies.

Worth a shot. Call the BMW dealer service dept. Give them your VIN and anything else they need to prove the car is yours. They maybe able to unlock the car remotely though the My BMW app. Sounds like you'll be getting another key from them anyways.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I was able to use a wedge to pry open the just enough to fit a fishing rod with wire on the end, hooked the keys from the cup holder and dropped them on the passenger.. I then used the tip of the rod to unlock the doors with the fob. Saved $240 and not a scratch on the door. Thanks for all the suggestions, I will be ordering a 2nd key this weekend.

I hope you were playing the 'Mission Impossible' theme in your head while you were doing this.

Congratulations!
