DCT shifter on F30 request

Hello everyone, I saw a thread earlier where some dude in China retrofitted the F80 DCT shifter on his F30 but all he said was that "coding was required" when asked how he had it retrofitted.

I know those shifters don't come with the 'park' button but maybe there's a way to tap into the lower button on the shifter itself? Maybe a retrofit plug for the park button can be done?

This is the shifter I saw and it has that button in the bottom that maybe we can figure out to tap into to make the park button work. Or am I completely wrong lol

I've seen this shifter on the X5M though it has a ZF auto. How do you shift into park on the DCT? Can you code it the same way?

That's what we are trying to figure out. As of right now you can't install this because there is no park option on this shifter.

If someone maybe knows if we can use that little button on the bottom to make that the park button then I'm definitely down to retrofit it

Is this just a cosmetic mod or is there some sort of functional benefit to this.

The DCT acts like a manual. There is no manual park. You just turn the car off and pull the parking brake, just like a manual.

I've look into doing this as well however I can't get a clear answer on what needs to be done.

From all the Pics I've seen looks like you will need to add a manual Park button.

Here are some Pics I found Online, F80 shifter on F30.

So basically I don't have to code anything? just leave it on neutral and put the E-brake up, turn the car off and that's it? Will the car let me lock it if it's not in park?

That's not a park button. That's for the PDC

The DCT behaves much differently than the ZF8. You must find a way to engage the parking pawl for it to function properly. My guess is a separate button.

Here's the car that did it:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1330524

AFIAK the F30 does not have the 3 tier shift mode button, and he clearly does. It might just be a dummy button to get the trim to work, but maybe he did code it as the park button. I'm sure he can clarify.

the transmission still locks out and put into "park" after the car is turned off. So, it doesn't have an "actual" park setting, but it isn't sitting sitting in neutral.

Yup, which is why a button is required, which it doesn't have because of said reasons. Theoretically I guess you could code it to park when you press the start/stop button.

on my F85, place the vehicle into Neutral, pull the e-brake (button as it is electronic parking brake) and turn off the ignition, then vehicle goes into park

try this on your stock F30 shifter ... place vehicle into neutral, pull up on your manual e-brak and shut off the ignition and open hte driver's door. see if the vehicle automatically places itself into park.

all late-model BMWs will automatically place the vehicle into park when the driver's door is opened with the transmission in any gear

the X5M and X6M dont have a true DCT ... its an M-tuned version of the ZF 8-speed. Wish it was a DCT, as the beast would likely be quicker than 4 sec 0-60

If you are stopped in the F30 and before pressing the Park button, turn the car off instead, it will automatically go into park. Maybe this would allow the DCT shifter to work?
