It’s even better that atm an11% discount is available in another year that should stretch to 20%
I would advise caution on relying on that, I picked up my M40i in May this year (ordered in Jan) and got a 14.9% discount, discounts on M40i are a lot lower now and list price has risen by £2.3k plus price of extras has gone up as well

If I ordered now, I would be paying at least £5k more overall

Sometimes you are just better off getting in at the launch, I suspect the M40D will be hugely popular for a long time and if demand is high the current excellent discounts will also fall

It does seem to be a habit of BMW dealers to give blanket high discounts when they don't know what demand is like for individual models

Sorry to digress slightly - but on a side note did anyone get service inclusive? I had this in 2011 for 30d and 2014 for 35d, noting that the second iteration was a little less value for money. Not wishing to buck the trend now it's down to 36k/3years :-/ . That will only give two services I suspect, but maybe it's just about still value for money ...

I didn't worry this time, all the new one gives us is 2 oil services, it doesn't include the inspection service or brake fluid change

What so on the second service it's just the oil change part that's free and you have to pay for the other bits?

No not saying that, it is the first 2 full oil change services that the pack covers

The inspection service isn't due until around 38k or 4 years so wouldn't come into it anyway

No mate, first service around 15k is just oil, second service around 30k is oil, air filter, micro filter & vehicle inspection and is about £500.

This is how it's been on both my F30's

I saw the X4 M40d at Goodwood FoS yesterday!!
Like the front and the back .......... but to my eyes the don’t go together?!!

At least BMW UK got the latest data correct for the X3 M40i that was also there!!!
It appeared brand new, but the rear badges where in the higher position, so must have been around for a while?

Is that starting with a warm engine, and straight onto/off the motorway without any town roads to get to it?

Perfectly realistic. Cold start, 100 mile motorway run, ending in urban/multi storey environment I can easily achieve 45+. Longer motorway runs would be better (I have seen 50 mpg with cold start / 100 mile run before the final urban/parking bit).

No xDrive sapping our economy in a straight line.

Not really. Bear in mind though I set out with the objective to do the whole thing on a tank, which determined the driving style end to end.

It was basically this. Filled up about a mile from home, straight drive up north, one stop about 20 miles from Durham. Pic 1.

Then did a bit of ferrying the daughter (at uni there) around from house to house. Then stayed at a hotel.

Did a bit more ferrying in the morning, loaded the car up with junk and drove home.

When on the M40 south didn't think I was on target to make it so I tailgated a lorry for about 40 miles.

Got there with 18 miles range left, pic 2.

Total journey (I misremembered the figures slightly) 556.6 miles, pic 3, and used 55.97 litres, pic 4. MPG calculated 45.2.

The journey down was a bit less efficient than the journey up because it involved quite a bit of ferrying around the city at the start and had all the daughter's stuff, plus daughter, so more weight, pic 5.

Tailgated a lorry for 40 miles! At 60mph I guess? Ok I don't go to those extremes!

Drove sensibly from my house in Norwich to my Sisters in Rothley on Thursday, including a little bit of fun on the Melton road (awesome driving road) and got an indicated 48mpg, this is via A47 so a few roundabouts and junctions.

F**k me, that's dedication to the task :-) Nice one.

EDIT -> Hang on, I thought it was odd when your auto-start/stop button was above the on button. Then I saw your profile - you drive a 340i right?

It was interesting to be able to compare both the X3 and X4 as they were on the same floor in the BMW stand.

I prefer the lower stance and driving position of the X4 but for an adult, the back seat was very awkward to enter, comfortable enough when in the no surprise the X3 probably wins for anyone regularly carrying adults or even child seats. The X4 looks wider but apparently across the mirrors they are both the same width at 2136mm
