The "tune" is dealer installed only, I'm not aware of anyone who's had it installed at an independent. Call Dealer and confirm they will install the MPPSK at the same cost as if you bought it from them if you provide it, I'll bet twenty bucks they find you one fast.

edit: And talk to a manager, parts countermen and SA's frequently have a different point of view than management.

Tried looking in their site. Do we need to contact then for the 20% off? Thanks for the heads up!

I sent this link to my dealer today, it was ordered within the hour. $3055 w/carbon fiber tips, free shipping. Much better than their original quote of about $3500 for parts only. Installation will be extra. Hopefully have it installed next week.

Kind of off topic but I'm scheduled for my regular maintenance and I will do a dyno right after. I know BMW sometimes reflashes the ECU and was thinking would that affect the dyno results at all? I'm thinking it might need some time for the ECU to readjust.

So the question is should I just do the dyno session right after or should I do it next week?

This post (slow as f@ck thread) mentioned something about "resetting throttle maps", whatever that is. Seems odd to me that the software would need to be reset periodically.

I took my car in a month ago for what seemed like retarded power through the rev range. I suspected a problem with the turbo since I wasn't feeling that "on boost" sensation and the engine acceleration while in gear was lagged. All they did was "reset my throttle maps" and the thing fired out of the parking lot like a rocket ship. It's starting to do that slow thing again. At this point I'm thinking it has to be programming related but I have no idea how to go about providing feedback for long term corrective action.

^This sounds like what they'd call a "throttle body adaptation" in the VW/Audi scene. As I understand it, doing this procedure sort of resets how the car has learned and adapted to your driving patterns. That can make the power delivery feel more raw. Of course the other school of thought is that you actually gain power as the car adapts to the new programming, which this procedure would seem to undo.

Bottom line, from many years running tuned cars in that world (Audi/VW), and now with an MPPSK'd 340i, the whole "throttle body adaptation" thing seems to be mostly about dealing with the psychological impact of getting a tune. The standard pattern is euphoric excitement over the new power -> a little disappointment/worry that maybe the power fading -> conviction that the tune has been flashed over or otherwise stopped working -> trips to dealer/posts on message boards to investigate -> back to euphoria as a TBA or some other trick seems to bring back the magic -> etc. etc. etc. until at some point you realize it was mostly all in your head and you never worry about TBA etc again.

That's not to say that tunes never have issues, but in my experience it's probably more a mental thing in like 90% of cases. I've said it before, the key to automotive zen is learning to appreciate what you have. Easier said than done, of course.

There's definitely an aspect of this to it, once you're used to the extra power, it no longer feels so 'extra'. The nice thing about the tune I had on my VAG car was I could switch back to stock map at-will, which made it easy to remind myself how much the tune changes it.

I think the throttle body adaptation is more of a calibration routine to calibrate the MAF/throttle position sensor to each other, so it may be necessary after a CAI or similar install, but I never once needed to do it myself on my car. The tuning shop may have done it as part of flashing the tune the first time, but I never needed to take it back to them for that for any reason.

Yeah I mostly ran APR tunes and liked that feature as well. You are probably right about the details of the tba, I basically went through the process I laid about above with my chipped b5 A4 15+ years ago. Did the tba a few times and once I realized it was mostly in my head I didn't think about it much on my next three tuned cars.

Congrats! Just picked up my MPPSK'd 440i from the dealer this morning, sounds so good.

Dealer in the area was running a similar deal, not quite 20%. Got the local one to match that.

Walked out paying about $3500 after labor and taxes. Did the SS tips so parts ended up being around $2700.

Nice torque number, what octane fuel were you running?

Curious how mppsk owners would compare the exhaust note to the M2 or m240? I still can't find an mppsk car at any dealer near me to hear it live. I am probably still gonna order it sight (sound) unseen anyway but trying to triangulate my expectations around other cars I have heard.

I was pretty sure MPE has resonators, which is why it doesn't have valves.

In contrast to the MPPSK exhaust, which doesn't have resonators, but has valves?

Not for the B58, totally different systems. If you do MPE and want MPPSK you have to remove MPE.
